This afternoon, the Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced off against the Delgado Lady Dolphins in an LCCAC game. The Lady Bears dominated for three strong quarters, ultimately securing a 77 to 68 victory over the Lady Dolphins.
The first quarter was highly competitive, with both teams exchanging leads. The Bears scored the final five points of the quarter, ending it with a 16-11 lead. Despite the score, the Lady Bears appeared sluggish and lacked energy on both ends of the floor.
During the break between quarters, Coach Lee challenged her team to increase their intensity. Following this, the Lady Bears ramped up their defensive pressure and found more success offensively in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Dolphins 25 to 16 and taking a 41 to 27 lead into halftime.
The Lady Dolphins were not deterred and increased their defensive efforts in the third quarter, which disrupted the Lady Bears. As a result, the Lady Dolphins outscored the Bears 24 to 20 in this quarter, narrowing the gap to 61-51.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears maintained their defensive pressure and received crucial offensive contributions from J'nyria Kelly and DeZarae Stewart, keeping at least a ten-point lead throughout. Although the Lady Dolphins outscored the Bears 17 to 16 in the final quarter, it wasn't enough, as Baton Rouge ultimately defeated Delgado 77 to 68 in the Bears' Den.
The Lady Bears were led by Shelcie LeBlanc, who scored 20 points, along with four other players—Kelly, James, and Stewart—who contributed to the offense with double figures. Miracle Irving led the Lady Dolphins with 20 points, and three of their players also scored in double figures.
With this victory, the Lady Bears improved their record to 13-7 overall and 5-2 in the conference, while the Lady Dolphins fell to 1-20 and 0-7 on the season. Baton Rouge now leads the all-time series against Delgado with 38 wins and 11 losses.
