Lady Bears Fourth Quarter Comeback falls short at Bishop State

The Lady Bears traveled to Mobile, Alabama, to conclude their four-game road swing against the Bishop State Lady Wildcats at the Frederick G. Evans Cultural Center on the campus of Bishop State.
The game began slowly for both teams, with difficulties on the offensive end. With 1:32 left in the first quarter, the score was tied at 9. However, the Lady Bears found some success in the final minutes, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 7-4 to take a 16-13 lead into the second quarter. During the closing minute, the Lady Bears capitalized on offensive rebounds, leading to extra scoring opportunities.
In the second quarter, fortunes reversed. The Lady Wildcats exploited the Lady Bears' sloppy offensive play and dominated the boards, resulting in several second-chance points. The Lady Wildcats opened the quarter with a 7-5 run, narrowing the gap to 21-20 with 6:26 remaining. Shortly after, they stole the ball from the Lady Bears and converted a layup to take a 22-21 lead. The Lady Wildcats maintained their advantage, extending it to ten points by the end of the quarter, leading 34-24 with 30 seconds left. At halftime, Bishop State led 34-26.
In the third quarter, the Lady Wildcats extended their lead to 11 points, 41-30, with four minutes left. They outscored the Lady Bears 14-11 in the quarter, taking a 48-37 lead into the fourth.
The final quarter saw the Lady Bears attempt a comeback, narrowing the deficit to five points, 59-54, thanks to back-to-back baskets from Frandreka Keller with two minutes remaining. However, it wasn't enough, and the Lady Wildcats ultimately defeated the Lady Bears 67-60.
Tyra Caves led the Lady Wildcats with a game-high 21 points, while Freshman Guard Shelcie LeBlanc led the Lady Bears with 17 points. With this loss, the Lady Bears fell to 3-3 for the season, while the Lady Wildcats improved to 3-5. The Lady Wildcats now lead the all-time series against the Lady Bears with 8 wins to 5 losses.

The Lady Bears will return home to the Bears Den on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, to face the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs. They previously defeated the Lady Bulldogs on November 14, 2024, in Goodman, Mississippi, by a score of 67-54.
