Delgado defeats Lady Bears in conference matchup

The Lady Bears and the Lady Dolphins battled for the first quarter then the Lady Dolphins broke the game open with a run in the second quarter. The Lady Dolphins would defeat the Lady Bears 78 to 65 this afternoon in the Bears Den.

The first quarter was a back and forth affair, in which, the game was tied twice and saw three lead changes. Delgado led 16 to 14 after the first quarter.  In the second quarter, the Lady Bears struggled offensively, while Delgado was firing on all cylinders.  The Lady Dolphins would go on a 19 to 9 run over the first nine minutes of the quarter.  At the half, Delgado led 35 to 25.

In the third quarter, the Lady Dolphins continued their hot shooting from the field as they would grow their lead to 16 points by the end of the quarter.  After three quarters, Delgado led 57 to 41.  Baton Rouge would outscore Delgado 24 to 21 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficient.  The Lady Dolphins would defeat the Lady Bears 78 to 65.

Delgado was led by a pair of student athletes, Victorianna Nelson and Jakwann Ross who each scored 17 points. The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Freshman Guard Antiesha Griffin, who had 17 points.

With the victory the Delgado Lady Dolphins improve to 8-14, 4-4 in conference play. The Lady Bears fall to 8-16, 3-5 on the season.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Antiesha Griffin lead all Lady Bears with 17 points.

Britanae White added 16 points.

A'Zia Reed scored 15 points.

 

The Lady Bears will conclude their 2020 season with a home conference match up Wednesday February 19 at 5:30 pm versus the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags. It will also be Sophomore Night. Bailey Antoine, A'Zia Reed, Malaya Spears and Desrael Schynder will suit up one last time for the Baton Rouge Lady Bears.  They will be honored before the start of the game.
