LSUE Lady Bengals too much for Lady Bears to handle

Wednesday February 12, 2020: Women's Basketball

Eunice, LA

Baton Rouge Lady Bears could not contain the high-powered offense of the LSUE Lady Bengals tonight in the HPRE Center.  The Lady Bengals led wire to wire to earn the 93 to 49 victory over the Lady Bears.

LSUE scored the first 12 points of the game.  The Lady Bears struggled to maintain possession of the ball on the offensive end which led to transition buckets for the Lady Bengals. A'Zia Reed got the Lady Bears on the board with 4:44 left in the first quarter. The Lady Bengals would outscore the Lady Bears 29 to 7, in the first quarter.  The second quarter was a carbon copy of the first quarter as the Lady Bengals used their defensive pressure to force the Lady Bears into some turnovers which led to easy transition baskets.  At the half, the Lady Bengals led 54 to 20.

A few bright spots for the Lady Bears was the play of sophomore forward Malaya Spears and A'Zia Reed.  These two athletes helped the Lady Bears outscore the Lady Bengals 15 to 14 in the third quarter. It was not enough to overcome the dominating performance by the Lady Bengals. LSUE would earn the 93 to 49 conference victory.

LSUE's Ava Jones led LSUE with a game high 32 points.  LSUE had 5 student athletes in double figures. The Lady Bears were led in scoring by sophomore forward A'Zia Reed.

With the victory the LSUE Lady Bengals clinch the LCCAC conference title. They improve to 17-7, 7-0 in conference play.  The Lady Bears fall to 8-15, 3-4 on the season.
