The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to Goodman, Mississippi, this Saturday, to take on the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs, in the Frank Branch Coliseum. The Lady Bears would fight till the end, but the Lady Bulldogs would pull off the 69 to 60 victory.
In the first quarter, the game was a back-and-forth affair between the two ball clubs. The quarter saw two ties and four lead changes. After the game was tied at 9 with 4:13 to go in the quarter, the Lady Bears would go on a mini 6-2 run to take a 15 to 11 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was similar to the first as both teams would trade buckets and the lead. The game was tied at 22 with 5:11 to go before the half. The Lady Bulldogs would close out the quarter on a 7 to 4 run to take a 29 to 26 lead into the break. Holmes would outscore Baton Rouge 18 to 11 in the quarter.
In the third quarter, the Lady Bulldogs would pull away a bit. With 4:34 remaining in the quarter they would take their largest lead of the quarter seven points; 41 to 34. The Lady Bears would claw their way back to within three points on two free throws by Akiyah Carnes with 2:52 remaining: 43-40. The Lady Bulldogs would pull ahead to take a 49 to 42 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Bulldogs would outscore the Lady Bears 20 to 16 in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs would pull away to take an eleven-point lead 63-52 with 5:21 remaining. The Lady Bears led by Carlasia Moore would fight back but it was not enough as the Lady Bulldogs would defeat the Lady Bears 69 to 60.
The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Carlasia Moore with 15 points. Savannah Hailey led the Lady Bulldogs with 29 points.
The Lady Bears fell to 1-10 while the Lady Bulldogs improved to 8-3 on the season. Holmes leads the overall series record with 13 wins and 7 losses.
Lady Bears Highlights:
Carlasia Moore led all Lady Bears with 15 points.
Haley Lavergne added 14 points.
J'nyria Kelly scored 12 points.
The Lady Bears will take some time off for the Christmas Holiday. They will return to action on Monday January 8, 2024, when they will travel to Wesson, Mississippi to take on the Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves at 6 pm.
