Alanna Donaldson Leads Lady Bears Past Bishop State

The Lady Bears played their season opener Tuesday night at home vs Bishop State and got the victory by double digits 73-63!!  Pressure defense led to easy points and gave them a 4-0 lead less than 90 seconds into the game. The defense continuted to shine as the Lady Bears  didnt allow a made field goal until 5:34 left in the first quarter. A first quarter offensive explosion from the Red-Shirt Sophomore #1 Alanna Donaldson scoring 8 points helped the Lady's to a 14-11 lead after one.

The second quarter starteed with Kalea Dean #32 the True Freshman, skying over 3 Wildcates and grabbed a board for an extra possession that eventually led to a bucket. Bishop changed from full court press to both 2-3 and 3-2 , which the Lady Bears attacked, going on a 10-1 run within the first three minutes.  Defensively the quick hands continued leading to takeaways leading to points. Verd Fontaine was the anchor she had multiple blocks and was a force in the post  The Bears doubled the Wildcats score in the 2nd quarter and were up 38-23 at halftime.

Coming out of halftime the Bears got into to early foul troublen which led to the score starting to get tighter, but the Bears were answering with buckets when they needed to throughout then third Period.T

The fourth period started with Bishiop in a full court press which helped them mount a comeback and the game was in single digits for the first time since the 2nd quarter. But that run didn't stop the ladies from locking in and a strong final offensive quarter from Alanna Donaldson and Stephanie Stewart put this game away and gave the Lady Bears their first win of the season.
