The Baton Rouge Lady Bears met the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bear this evening, in Summit, for the quarterfinal game of the Region XXIII tournament and a chance to make it to the final four. Baton Rouge Lady Bears 2021-2022 basketball season ended Tuesday with a loss, in the quarterfinals of the Region XXIII Basketball Tournament, to the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears by the final score of 79-60.

The first quarter was an evenly matched contest between the two-ball club. Southwest Mississippi would score the first four points and they would extend their lead to four, 8-4 with 6:43 remaining. Baton Rouge would go on an 8-4 run to tie the game at 12 with 2:59. Baton Rouge would close out the quarter on an 5-3 run to take a 17 to 15 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, each team would trade buckets and the lead throughout the quarter. Southwest Mississippi would out score Baton Rouge 20 to 16 to take two-point lead into the half;35-33.

In third quarter, the Southwest Lady Bears grew their lead to six points;41-35 with 6:07 remaining. Baton Rouge Lady Bears would pull within one;43-42 with 3.17 remaining. Southwest would close out the  quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 53-44 lead. 

In the fourth quarter, Southwest continued to grow their lead with and inside-out game plan.  Southwest would outscore Baton Rouge 23 to 16, in the fourth quarter, to secure the 79-60 quarterfinal victory over the Lady Bears.

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears finish the season with a 17-8 record, a conference championship, and an appearance in the quarter-final round of the Region XXIII tournament.
