Lady Bears Basketball defeat Lady Dolphins in NOLA

Saturday February 12, 2022: Women's Basketball

New Orleans, La

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled down to New Orleans, this afternoon, to take on the Delgado Lady Dolphins to wrap up the second round of conference play. It was not the prettiest game the Lady Bears have played all season, but it did result in a 62 to 44 victory. As Coach Lee would say an ugly win is better than a pretty lost.

In the first quarter, the Lady Dolphins were more aggressive than the Lady Bears and it showed. The Lady Bears were sluggish on both ends of the floor and the Lady Dolphins took advantage. Early in the quarter, the game would be tied twice. After the game was tied at 8 the Lady Dolphins would go on a mini 7 to 4 run to take a 15 to 12 lead. The Lady Bears would tie the game at the buzzer with a three pointer by Kirstin Journet. At the end of the first quarter the game was tied at 19.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bears found a bit of a rhythm on the offensive end fueled by their defense. The Lady Bears came out in a full court press that forced the Lady Dolphins into some long shots with long rebounds thus break aways for the Lady Bears. The Lady Bears would open the quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 33-19 lead with 3:38 remaining.  The Lady bears would then struggle to close out the quarter only scoring two points, in the last three minutes, but they still lead at the half;35-23.

In the third quarter, both teams struggled to get anything going as the Lady Bears would outscore the Lady Dolphins 12 to 10, in the quarter, to take a 47 to 33 lead into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears would outscore the Lady Dolphins 15 to 11 enroute to the 62 to 44 victory this afternoon in the Michael Williamson Center.

The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Skye Allen with 10 points. The Lady Dolphins were led in scoring by Korriana Reynard with 16 points.

With the victory Baton Rouge Lady Bears improve to 13-7, 5-1, while the Delgado Lady Dolphins fall to 6-12, 1-5 on the season.
