Lady Bears claw their way back to the victory over LSUE

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the LSUE Lady Bengals faced off tonight in another epic conference battle.  The Lady Bears would fight and claw their way back for the 69 to 64 victory, in the HPRE Center.

In the first quarter the game saw 3 ties and 6 lead changes.  The Lady Bengals were paced by the three-point shot as they connected on five, in the quarter.  At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bengals led 24 to 17 over the Lady Bears.

In the second quarter, the Lady Beard clapped down on the defensive end holding the Lady Bengals to only 10 second quarter points.  The Lady Bears would also find a bit of the rhythm on the offensive end of the floor. With the clock running out in the quarter, Alanna Donaldson would steal the ball and hit a lay-up to tie the game at 34 heading into the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bengals would again rely on their outside shooting to build a 14-point lead. The Lady Bears struggled to get anything going, in the quarter, only scoring 6 points.  At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Bengals held a 54 to 40 lead over the Lady Bears.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bear continued to fight and claw their way back into the ball game.  The Lady Bears were very aggressive on the defensive end, and they limited the Lady Bengals to single possession.  The Lady Bears would also use that aggressive defense and turn it into points on the offensive end. With 2:32 remaining, the Lady Bears would close the gap to four points;64-60.  LSUE would receive a technical foul when Alanna Donaldson was fouled on a jumper in the lane.  Donaldson would hit 3 of 4 free throws to close within one:64-63. On the following Lady Bears possession, freshman post Monique Patterson would rebound a miss for the Lady Bears and hit a put back to give the Lady Bears a 65 to 64 lead over the Lady Bengals. The Lady Bears would hold the Lady Bengals scoreless for the final four minutes to help secure the 69 to 64 comeback conference victory.

The Lady Bears were led in scoring by freshman guard Alanna Donaldson with 18 points. LSUE was led in scoring by Rylee Jinks with 13 points.

With the victory the Lady Bears improve to 9-6,1-0 while the Lady Bengals fall to 7-9,0-1 on the season.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Alanna Donaldson led all Bears with 18 points

Tronayia Issac scored 15 points

An'Tiesha Griffin added 10 points

 

Side Note: With the victory the Lady Bears snap a 13-game losing streak to LSUE. This was the first time in five years that the Lady Bears had beat the Lady Bengals on their home floor.

The Lady Bears will return home this Saturday January 29 to face conference opponent the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags at 2 pm in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
