Lady Bears fall at Mississippi Gulf Coast

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears could not control the high-powered offense of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs as they fall 65 to 50, this afternoon in the Weather-Wentzel Gym.

In the first quarter, the Bulldogs would jump out to a 7 to 3 lead with 6:05, left in the quarter.  The Lady Bears would rally back to take a 9 to 7 lead with a three-point play by freshman Guard Angel Bradford.  The Lady Bulldogs would tie the game at 9; then finish out the quarter on an 8-4 run to take a 17 to 13 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bears struggled to get anything going on the offensive end.  They had decent looks at the basket but was rushing their shots.  While the Lady Bulldogs continued to stay hot on the offensive end, they also out rebounded the Lady Bears.  The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Bears 13 to 9, in the second quarter, to take a 30 to 22 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bears found a bit of a rhythm on the offensive end but still couldn't find a way to slow down the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs out scored the Lady Bears 17 to 16, in the third quarter, to take a 47 to 38 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs would open the game wide open enroute to a 65 to 50 Region 23 victory over the Lady Bears.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs improve to 9-2, while the Baton Rouge Lady Bears fall to 7-6.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Sadie Williams and Beverly Tillman who each had 15 points.  The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Alanna Donaldson with 13 points.

 

Lady Bears Highlights:

Alanna Donaldson led all Lady Bears with 13 points

Stephanie Stewart   added 10 points

Tronayia Issac and Angel Bradford each scored 9 points.

 

The Lady Bears will return to action this Saturday January 15 at 2 pm versus Coastal Alabama South in the Bears Den.  This will be the last non-conference game for the Lady Bears before they start their conference slate on Jan 26 at LSUE.
