Lady Bears fall short against Bishop State

This was eighth meeting between the Baton Rouge Bears and the Bishop State Wildcats . Tonight's matchup was moved to the University of Mobile due to issues with Bishop State's gymnasium.  A strong fourth quarter, by Bishop State, propels them to the 65 to 54 comeback victory.

The first quarter was a very fast paced game between the two ball clubs.  The game was extended as both teams would pick up full court and press the whole first quarter. After the game was tied at 2 with 8:15 left, the Lady Bears would go on a 13-7 run to open their largest lead of the first half 8 points;17-9.  The Lady Bears would take a 17 to 11 lead, into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats would find their stroke from long-range connecting on 4 three pointers, in the quarter, to close within 2 points at the half.  Bishop State would outscore Baton Rouge 19 to 15, in the second quarter, but Baton Rouge would lead Bishop State 32 to 30, at the half.  

Bishop State would tie the game at 32 with a jumper in the key with 9:46 left in the quarter.  The Lady Bears would pound the ball inside and go on a 13 to 3 run to open a 10-point advantage; 45 to 35 with 5.50 left, in the quarter. Bishop State would not go away as they would go on a 7-0 run to close the gap to three; 47 to 42 with 58 seconds left in the quarter. At the end of the third quarter, Baton Rouge led Bishop State 47 to 42.

In the fourth quarter, Bishop State would tie the ball game twice and then clamp down on the defensive pressure.  The Wildcats would hit the Lady Bears with a half court trap that threw the Lady Bears out of rhythm on the offensive end of the floor. Bishop State would outscore Baton Rouge 23 to 7, in the fourth quarter, to seal the 65 to 54 comeback victory.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by K. Brown with 16. The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Tronayia Issac with 14.

With the victory Bishop State improves to 5-8, while Baton Rouge falls to 6-5 on the season.

The all-time series record between Baton Rouge and Bishop State is all squared at 4 wins a piece.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Tronayia Issac led all Lady Bears with 14 points.

Angel Bradford added 11 points

An'Tiesha Grifin scored 8 points

 

The Lady Bears will take a small break for the Christmas Holiday.  They will enjoy some much-needed rest and time with family and friends.  The Lady Bears will be back on the road on January 4 when they travel to Summit, Mississippi to take on the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears.
