Lady Bears Defend and Dominate in Monroeville

December 6, 2021: Women's Basketball

Monroeville, AL

The Lady Bears began their two-day Alabama Road trip tonight, in Monroeville, with a game against the Coastal Alabama North Lady Eagles. This is the first ever meeting between the two ball clubs. The Lady Bears slogan this season is Defend and Dominate and the Lady Bears did just that tonight versus the Lady Eagles. The Baton Rouge Lady Bears defeat the Coastal Alabama North Lady Eagles by the final score of 97 to 43.

In the first quarter, the Lady Bears locked down on defense and pressed the Lady Eagles. The aggressive defense ,by the Lady Bears, forced the Lady Eagles into multiple turnovers that the Lady Bears turned into transition buckets. Halfway through the first quarter, the Lady Bears led 16 to 4. The Lady Bears also spread the ball around on the offensive end and got everyone involved. Baton Rouge would close out the quarter on a 15 to 6 run to take a 31 to 8 lead.

The second quarter was a carbon copy of the first quarter. The Lady Bears continued their aggressive defensive pressure that kept the Lady Eagles out of sync on the offensive end of the floor. The Lady Bears were running and gunning en route to outscoring the Lady Eagles 21 to 10, in the second quarter.

At the half, Coach Lee and her Coaching Staff encouraged the ladies to continue the effort and intensity. They wanted them to continue to play hard for the whole 40 minutes no matter the score on the score board. They wanted the Lady Bears to execute and get better as a team ,in the second half.

In the third quarter, freshman guard Angel Bradford dominated for the Lady Bears. Angel scored 12 of the Lady Bears 26 points, in the quarter. Baton Rouge continued their fast-paced game and their active defensive pressure. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Bears led the Lady Eagles 78 to 31.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears continued their solid play on both ends of the floor. With 2:25 left in the fourth quarter, the roof started leaking forming a puddle of water on the floor. The officials deemed the floor unsafe for further play and called the game. The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Eagles by the final score of 97 to 43.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Paula Lee's thought on tonight's victory: "The kids played hard, they executed the game plan and played with passion and energy." This was a fun game to coach and even funnier to watch the kids do what we asked of them and watch them have fun playing the game.

The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Angel Bradford with 27 points. The Lady Bears had four student athletes score in double figures. All but one Lady Bear that played in the game scored. The Lady Eagles were led in scoring by N. Reese who scored 15 points.

With the victory, Baton Rouge Lady Bears improve to 5-3, while Coastal Alabama South Lady Eagles fall to 1-8 on the season.

Side Notes: The Lady Bears were 6 points away from breaking the record for the most points scored in a game. The record was 102 which was achieved on Dec 16, 2011, versus Houston Community College. The 54-point margin of victory did break a record tonight for the Lady Bears as the largest margin of victory on the road. The previous record for largest margin of victory on the road was 48 at Houston Community College on December 17, 2011.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Angel Bradford led the Lady Bears with a game high 27 points.
