Lady Bears pick up Huge Road Win

Lady Bears pick up Huge Road Win

Monday November 29, 2021: Women's Basketball

Wesson, MS

It might not have been the prettiest game, but the Baton Rouge Lady Bears overcame a slow start and a sloppy ball game to pull out the 53 to 45 victory, tonight in Mullen Gym.

Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves jumped out to a quick start as they would take a commanding 9-0 lead with 5:17 left, in the first quarter. In the opening minutes, the Lady Bears struggled on the offensive end with turnovers. The Lady Bears turned it around to end the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 10 to 9 lead over the Lady Wolves.

The second quarter was a low scoring quarter as both teams would combine for only 16 points. The Lady Bears would outscore the Lady Wolves 9 to 7, in the quarter, to take a 19 to 16 lead into halftime. The Lady Bears capitalized on some Lady Wolves' turnovers and second chance opportunities.

In the third quarter, the Lady Wolves would forge a bit of a comeback to outscore the Lady Bears 12 to 7 to take a 28 to 26 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

For the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, it was a back-and-forth game between the two ball clubs. The game was tied four times in that time span. Co-Lin would hit a three pointer with 5:23 left to tie the ball game at 35. On the very next Lady Bears possession, Tronayia Issac would hit a jumper to give the Lady Bears a 37 to 35 lead in which they would not relinquish. Baton Rouge would then close out the quarter on a 16 to 10 run to secure the 53 to 45 Region 23 road victory tonight in Wesson, Mississippi.

The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Angel Bradford with 14 points. The Lady Wolves were led in scoring by Zykeria Anderson with 14 points.

With the victory, the Lady Bears improve to 4-3, while the Lady Wolves fall to 5-3 on the season.
