Another Lady Bears Comeback leads to a Victory

Another game and another slow start by the Baton Rouge Lady Bears but fortunately a hot fourth quarter helped propel them to the 46 to 44 victory over the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears, this afternoon in the Bears Den.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth game between the two sets of Lady Bears, for the first five minutes. In that time span the game was tied three times. The Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears would go on an 8 to 2 run to close out the quarter and take a 16 to 8 lead. Southwest would capitalize on Baton Rouge miscues with the ball which led to transition buckets on their end.

Both teams struggled to find their offense, in the second quarter. Southwest would outscore Baton Rouge 11 to 7 to take a 27 to 15, lead at the half.

Scoring was again limited, in the third quarter, between the two groups of  Lady Bears. Baton Rouge would outscore Southwest 9 to 8 to inch closer at the end of the third quarter;35-24.

In the fourth quarter, the Baton Rouge Lady Bears continued to play some stingy defense limiting the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears to 9 points, in the quarter. Baton Rouge clamped down on the boards limiting Southwest to one possession each time down the floor. Sophomore Forward Tronayia Issac provided the spark the Baton Rouge Lady Bears needed on the offensive end. Issac would score 9 of her game high 12, in the fourth. Baton Rouge would open the quarter on a 16 to 4 run to tie the game at 39. Angel Bradford would get fouled and make her first free throw to tie the game at 39 and her second would give Baton Rouge their first lead of the ball game since the opening minutes of the first quarter. Southwest would get aa close as one point, 45-44 with 7.5 seconds but Baton Rouge's Alanna Donaldson would make 1 of 2 free throws down the stretch to seal the 46 to 44 comeback victory.

With the victory Baton Rouge Lady Bears improve to 3-3 on the season, while Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears fall to 3-3.

Baton Rouge Lady Bears was led in scoring by Tronayia Issac with 12 points. A. White led the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears with 11 points.

 

Lady Bears Highlights:

Tronayia Issac led the Lady Bears with 12 points

Alanna Donaldson added 8 points

Stephanie Stewart and Angel Bradford each scored 6 points 

 

The Lady Bears will take some time off for the Thanksgiving Holiday. They will return to action on Monday November 29 with a road trip to Wesson, Mississippi to take on the Copiah-Lincoln  Lady Wolves at 6 pm.
