Women's Basketball: Baton Rouge, LA

It's that time of the year where you must win, or you go home.  Its post-season time in Bear Nation.  The Lady Bears began their quest for a title tonight in a Region 23 play in game versus the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.  The Lady Bears started strong, had a lapse in middle of the game but finished strong to secure the 68 to 49 victory.

The Lady Bears offense was firing on all cylinders, in the first quarter, as they would outscore the Lady Jags 19-2 with 2:11 to play to build a 12-point lead;19-5. The Lady Bears defense forced the Lady Jags to be out of sync on the offensive end.  The Lady Bears forced the Lady Jags into multiple turnovers which they turned into transition buckets.  After the first quarter, Baton Rouge led 23 to 10. In the beginning of the second quarter, the Lady Bears were a bit lax with the basketball and the Lady Jags took advantage. The Lady Jags would go on a 13 to 4 run to pull within 4; 27 to 23.  The Lady Bears would get it together and close out the quarter on a 13 to 2 run to take a 40 to 25 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bears continued to dominate on both ends of the floor.  In the quarter, the ladies got a huge boost from their bench. Ja'Kai Randall and  Frandreka Keller scored 11 of the Lady Bears 15 third quarter points.  The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Jags 15 to 6 in the third quarter.  After three quarters, Baton Rouge led 55 to 31. Unlike previous games, there would be no let down in the fourth quarter.  The Lady Bears continued their stingy defense, limiting the Lady Jags possessions and kept their foot on the gas pedal on the offensive end. They would extend their lead to 28 points, the largest of the game.  In the end, the Lady Bears would defeat the Lady Jags 68 to 49 to move on in the Region 23 tournament.
