Women's Basketball: Baton Rouge, LA

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears begin their final round of conference play games this afternoon with the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. Baton Rouge holds off a second half rally by Southern Shreveport to earn the 75 to 60 conference victory.

The Lady Bears opened in a full court press that rattled the Lady Jags.  The press forced the Lady Jags into several turnovers which the Lady Bears turned into points. After the first quarter, the Lady Bears led 17 to 6. In the second quarter, the Lady Jags got their offense going a bit to pull within six; 20 to 14. Baton Rouge would withstand the run and extend their lead to 16 points, the largest of the first half; 32 to 16 with 3:54. At the half, the Lady Bears led 40 to 29.

The Lady Jags came out of the half on fire on the offensive end of the floor. The Lady Jags would go on 11 to 2 runs to open the quarter and pull within two points of the Lady Bears;42 to 40 with 4:26 left in the quarter. The Lady Bears would find their stroke on the offensive end and lock down on the defensive end. The Lady Bears would close out the third quarter on a 21 to 5 run to take a 61 to 45 lead heading into the fourth. Even though the Lady Bears would be outscored 15 to 14, in the fourth, quarter they would come away with the 75 to 60 conference victory.

With the victory the Baton Rouge Lady Bears improve to 6-9,4-6 in conference play, while Southern Shreveport Lady Jags fall to 4-9,1-9 on the season.

The Lady Bears will play their final home regular season game this Wednesday March 24 versus the Delgado Lady Dolphins at 5:30 pm
