Second half  surge by Lady Bengals defeats Lady Bears

A second half rally by the LSUE Lady Bengals leads them to the 66-56 conference victory over the Baton Rouge Lady Bears this afternoon, in the HPRE Center.

In the first quarter, it was a back-and-forth affair between the Lady Bears and the Lady Bengals. The game was tied four times and saw four lead changes. At the end of the first quarter, the game was all tied at ten apiece.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bears increased their defensive pressure keeping the Lady Bengals out of sync on the offensive end of the floor. The Lady Bears got a few turnovers that led to some easy buckets. The Lady Bears built a four-point lead; 24 to 20 with 2:31 left in the half. The Lady Bengals went into a full court press forcing some Lady Bears turnovers which led to the Bengals taking a one-point lead into halftime. At the half, the LSUE Lady Bengals led 25 to 24 over the Baton Rouge Lady Bears.

In the third quarter, LSUE opened with a full court press that threw the Lady Bears offense out whack. After the game was tied at 30 with 6:46 left in the quarter, the Lady Bengals would outscore the Lady Bears 14 to 6 to take a 44-36 lead heading into the fourth. The Lady Bears continued to scrap, in the fourth quarter, but could only come as close as six points ;58-52 before LSUE would finish out the game on a 8-4 run to secure the 66-56 victory. 

Brooklyn Fontenot led LSUE with 16 points. 

With the victory the LSUE Lady Bengals improve to 10-2,5-0 in conference play, while Baton Rouge falls to 4-7, 2-4 on the season.

Next up for the Lady Bears is a Wednesday March 10 road trip to Shreveport to take on the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags at 5 pm at Booker T Washington High School
