A second half rally and last second shot help secure the conference victory for the Delgado Lady Dolphins this afternoon, in the Bears Den, over the Baton Rouge Lady Bears.  Delgado wins 75 to 74.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair between the two conference rivals.  The game was tied 3 times and there were 4 lead changes.  At the end of the first quarter the Lady Bears led 20 to 17.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bears freshman crew stepped up their offensive and defensive game to build an 8-point halftime lead; 37 to 29.

Midway through the third quarter the Lady Bears built their largest lead of the game, 15 with solid defensive pressure and continued offensive success by Demetriona Hookfin and Angel Bradford. The Lady Bears went to a full court press that seemed to rattle the Lady Dolphins, forcing them into some turnovers that the Lady Bears would take advantage of. In the last two minutes of the quarter, the Lady Dolphins found their rhythm on the offensive end of the floor pulling within 9 points, at the end of the quarter.  At the end of the third quarter, Baton Rouge led 60 to 51.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears began to come unraveled.  They missed multiple layups and turned the ball over leading to easy buckets for the Lady Dolphins. Delgado would find their stride and take the lead with 2.40 seconds to go with a steal and a lay-up; 71 to 70. The Lady Bears would take a 74 to 73 lead on an Angel Bradford jumper in the lane off a designed inbound play with 12 seconds left to play.  Delgado would call a time out to draw up their game winning play.  The Lady Bears defender would be screened and the Lady Dolphins would throw a strike to the bucket to score the basket at the rim to take a 75 to 74 lead with 1 second left to play. Baton Rouge would fall to Delgado 75 to 74.

Delgado had four student athletes in double figures.  The Lady Dolphins were led in scoring by Nash Dominguez who had a game high 28 points. The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Demetriona Hookfin and Angel Bradford who each scored 19 points.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Demetriona Hookfin co lead the Lady Bears with 19 points, 6 Rebounds and 3 steals.

Angel Bradford co lead the Lady Bears with 19 points, 2 Rebounds, 4 Assist, and 4 Steals

Alanna Donaldson scored 9 points with 5 Rebounds, 7 Assist and 6 steals

Kirstin Journet scored 8 points with 1 Rebound and 2 Steals.

 The Lady Bears will be back in action this Wednesday February 24, 2021 as they take on conference rivals Louisiana State University-Eunice at 5:30 pm in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
