A big second quarter by the Baton Rouge Lady Bears propels them to the Region 23 victory, this afternoon in the Bears Den, versus the Holmes Lady Bulldogs by the final score of 71 to 58.
In the first quarter, both teams would come out in a full court press that threw the opposing team's offensive out of whack. Holmes Lady Bulldogs would turn their early pressure into a 6-0 run to start the game. The Lady Bears would get on the board with a bucket by Freshman Guard Kirstin Journett with 9:25 left to play. In the first quarter, the game was tied twice and saw three lead changes. At the end of the first quarter, Holmes Lady Bulldogs led 19 to 18.
In the second quarter, the game was tied at 26 when the Lady Bears would find their rhythm on offense and go on an 18 to 6 run to end the quarter and take the halftime lead at 44 to 32.
Holmes would start the third quarter on a 10-3 run to pull within 5 points of the Lady Bears;47-42. Tyra Vaughn and Tronayia Issac would score the final seven points, in the quarter, for the Lady Bears to extend their lead to 57 to 46, after the third quarter. Holmes outscored Baton Rouge 14 to 13, in the third.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears would continue their solid defensive performance and got a few more buckets to fall enroute to their 71 to 58 region 23 victory.
Baton Rouge was led in scoring by Freshman Alanna Donaldson and Sophomore Amani Barrow who each had 13 points. Holmes was led in scoring by Gabrielle Bunch with a game high 15 points.
With the victory, Baton Rouge improves 2-2, while Holmes falls 2-1 on the season.

Alanna Donaldson co- led the Lady Bears with 13 points, 3 Rebounds, 5 Assist.
Amani Barrow co-led the Lady Bears with 13 points,10 rebounds and 1 assist.
Demetriona Hookfin scored 10 points with 1 Rebound and 4 steals.
Tronayia Issac scored 9 points with 10 Rebounds.
An' Tiesha Griffin scored 8 point with 1 Rebound, 1 Assist and 3 steals
The Lady Bears will be back in action next Friday February 12, 2021 as they travel to Mobile to take on the Bishop State Lady Wildcats at 5:30 pm.
