Lady Bears fall to Lady Cavs

Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavs would pull away late to defeat the Baton Rouge Community College Lady Bears, this afternoon, in a matchup of in state rivals. BPCC outlast BRCC 60 to 54, in the Coach Billy Montgomery Gymnasium, for the victory.

 

It was a sluggish first quarter as the Lady Bears could only score 13 points. The Lady Bears did score first with a 3 pointer by freshman guard Angel Bradford to take the early lead. Amani Barrow would add to the Lady Bears lead with another bucket.  After three minutes of play, the Lady Bears led the Lady Cavs 5 to 4. The Lady Cavs would close out the first quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 17 to 13 lead after one.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bears struggled to find the bucket. Really, both teams would struggle in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Bossier Parish took advantage of some Baton Rouge turnovers to build their largest lead of the ballgame, 11. Baton Rouge found a bit of a spark in the last three minutes of the quarter to close the Bossier Parish lead to eight at the half.  At the half, Bossier Parish had a 31 to 23 lead. Baton Rouge was outscored in the second quarter, 14 to 10. 

At the half, Coach Lee and her staff made some adjustments and challenged the Lady Bears to fight harder and take better care of the basketball.  The Lady Bears opened the third quarter on a 10 to 4 run to close the gap to 35-33.  Angel Bradford and Amani Barrow led the way, in the third quarter, as the Lady Bears would outscore the Bossier Parish Lady Cavs 12 to 11. The Lady Bears would tie the game at 45 in the fourth quarter with a bucket by Freshman guard Alanna Donaldson. The game would be tied two more times in the next three minutes before Bossier Parish would retake the lead for good with two free throws by Brianna Green.   After a Baton Rouge timeout, the Lady Cavs would steal the inbound pass and sink two free throws to seal the 60 to 54 victory.

 

Bossier Parish was led in scoring by Ma'Kaila Lewis who led all scores with 16 points. Baton Rouge was led in scoring by Sophomore Forward from Lafayette Amani Barrow who scored 12.

With the victory Bossier Parish improves to 1-0 while Baton Rouge falls to 1-1 on the season

Lady Bears Highlights

Amani Barrow led the Lady Bears with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

Angel Bradford scored 11 points with 4 assist and 2 steals.

Demetriona Hookfin scored 9 points with 1 assist and 1 steal.

Alanna Donaldson scored 7 points, with 5 assists.

 

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday January 27, 2021 at 5:30 in the Bears Den.
