Lady Bears fall to Lady Bengals

A sluggish second quarter dooms the Lady Bears, as the LSUE Lady Bengals defeat the Baton Rouge Lady Bears 76 to 66 tonight, in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center.

In the first quarter, the Lady Bears took advantage of a slow start by the Lady Bengals to build an 8 to 3 lead with 6 minutes to play.  LSUE Lady Bengals would tie the game at 12 with four minutes to go, in the quarter. The Lady Bears would use some good free throw shooting to go on an 5-0 run to take a 19 to 12 lead, with 2 minutes to play. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bears held a 21 to 20 lead. The second quarter was rough for the Lady Bears as they would only score 6 points, in the quarter.  The Lady Bengals would go on an 11 to 2 run to take a 31 to 23 lead with 1:25 left to play, in the half. At the half, LSUE led Baton Rouge 33 to 27.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bengals would continue their hot shooting and their defensive pressure forcing the Lady Bears to be a bit out of sync.  LSUE would build their largest lead of the game; 14 with 3:20 left to play, in the quarter.  At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Bengals led 54 to 44. The Lady Bears would continue to fight, in the fourth quarter, but they could not overcome the Lady Bengals lead; as they would fall 76 to 66 tonight.

The Lady Bengals were led in scoring by Ava Jones who had 22 points. The Lady Bears were led by sophomore forward Desrael Schnyder who had 25.

With the victory the Lady Bengals improve to 15-6, 4-0 in conference play, while the Lady Bears fall to 6-14, 1-3 on the season.

 

Lady Bears Highlights:

Desrael Schnyder led all Lady Bears with 25 points and 9 rebounds

Britanae White added 13 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals

A'Zia Reed and Jennifer Carter each scored 8 points.

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action on Wednesday February 5, 2020 versus the Delgado Lady Dolphins at 5:30 pm in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center.
