Lady Bears come from 12 points down to beat the Lady Trojans

It was another slow start for the Lady Bears, here Saturday afternoon, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.  The Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans jumped out to a 9 to 1 led with 6:12 remaining in the first quarter.  Baton Rouge closed the gap, with 51 seconds left in the first quarter, to trail Mississippi Delta by 5 points.  The first quarter score was Lady Bears 14 and Lady Trojans 21.  The second quarter was sloppy on both sides, with both teams trading buckets and turnovers.  The halftime score was Mississippi Delta 35 and Baton Rouge 30.  The third quarter was similiar to the second quarter with no one getting a large led until 3:42 left in the third quarter, when the Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Bears 12 to 5 to close the quarter. Baton Rouge Lady Bears started the fourth quarter down by twelve points.  During a timeout, Coach Lee challenged her young squad to compete both on defense and offense,and her team responded.  During the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears outscored the Lady Trojans 13 to 4, to close the gap to 56 to 53. Lady Bears took their first lead of the game with 3:22 remaining in the fourth quarter, 61 to 58. Baton Rouge outrebounded Mississippi Delta 41 to 27.  The Lady Bears also forced 15 steals in the game. Baton Rouge earned their second win of the season as they defeat Mississippi Delta 69 to 60.

 

Lady Bears Highlights:

Celica Sterling led the Lady Bears with 25 points, 4 assist, 5 steals and 10 rebounds

Rosa Reynard added 13 points and 5 Rebounds

Tremeeka Spikes added 12 points (she was 8 for 12 from the free throw line) and 9 Rebounds

Harlee Doucet added 7 points on 67 % shooting from the field, 1 assist and 1 block shot

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action as they travel to Perkinston, Mississippi to take on Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday December 9 at 3:00 pm.  This will be the last game of the fall semester for the Lady Bears.
