Bears fall at #13 LSUE

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Eunice, Louisiana, this afternoon to make up a pair of games against the #13 LSUE Lady Bengals at Bengals Softball Field. The Bears struggled offensively and were unable to contain the high-powered offense of the Lady Bengals, resulting in two losses by scores of 10-0 and 8-0.
Game One
The LSUE Lady Bengals jumped out to an explosive start in the first inning, scoring 10 runs off three different Bears pitchers. The Bears faced difficulties in the field, giving up ten runs in the first inning. However, they settled down defensively and held the Lady Bengals scoreless over the next three innings. Unfortunately, the Bears could not string together enough hits to score any runs, leading to a 10-0 defeat in a five-inning run rule.
Olivia Burns started in the circle for the Bears, pitching 0.1 innings and allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits. Devyn Latiolais and Abbey Borel pitched in relief. R. Rioas started for the Lady Bengals and earned the victory, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing 0 runs on 3 hits while striking out 1.
The Lady Bengals outhit the Bears 9 to 4, and the Bears committed 5 errors during the game.

Game Two
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lady Bengals scored at least one run in five of the six innings. Again, the Bears struggled both at the plate and in the field, resulting in an 8-0 loss in a six-inning run rule.
The Lady Bengals scored one run in both the second and third innings, and two runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, taking an 8-0 lead over the Bears. The Bears went down in order during the first two innings. In the third inning, Rylee Guthrie reached on a single but was stranded. The Bears continued to struggle in the fourth and fifth innings, going down in order once more. In the sixth inning, Rylee Guthrie led off with a single to left field, but the Bears could not capitalize and manufacture a run. The Lady Bengals added two more runs in the sixth inning to secure the 8-0 victory.
LSUE outhit the Bears 10 to 2, and the Bears committed 5 errors again.
Briley LeBeouf started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 5 innings and allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits while walking 6 and striking out 3. Jennifer Fontenot pitched in relief for the Bears. A. Boutte pitched 6 innings to earn the victory.

With the pair of losses, the Bears' record falls to 19-15, while the Lady Bengals improve to 36-8 on the season.
The Bears and the Lady Bengals will face each other again this Tuesday, April 15, at Hartley Vey Oak Villa Sports Complex in Baton Rouge. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2 PM.
