Bears split with the Lamar State College Port Arthur Lady Seahawks

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Lamar State College Port Arthur Lady Seahawks squared off this afternoon at Hartley Vey Oak Villa Sports Complex for a doubleheader. The teams split the day, with the Lady Seahawks winning game one 2-1 and the Bears taking game two 9-8.
Game One
The first game of today's doubleheader was a low-scoring affair. The Lady Seahawks broke through with two runs in the fifth inning and managed to hold off a late rally from the Bears to secure a 2-1 victory.
The Seahawks scored first, with K. Ingle leading off the inning with a double. She later scored on a single from K. Finley hit up the middle. Q. Zaragoza followed with a triple to left field, driving in the second run of the inning for the Lady Seahawks.
The Bears finally got on the board in the seventh inning. Baylie Romero hit a single that deflected off the third baseman's glove and advanced to second on the same play. Ashlyn Hebert later hit a fly ball that was caught at the fence, but Romero tagged up and advanced to third base. Rylee Guthrie then hit a single up the middle to bring Romero home. Eve Fruge' followed with an infield single, placing runners on first and second. Lindsey Hudson executed a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners. However, the Seahawks ended the Bears' rally when Maddie Robinson flew out to centerfield, sealing the 2-1 win for Lamar.
Maddie Robinson started for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 7 innings while allowing 2 runs on 8 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4. B. Dartez started for the Lady Seahawks and earned the victory, pitching 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, walking 3, and striking out 5. The Lady Seahawks outhit the Bears 8 to 5, and neither team committed an error.

With her strikeout of R. Ramos to end the first inning, Maddie Robinson set a new program record for career strikeouts, surpassing Haley Grantham's previous record of 167.
Game Two
The Lady Bears rallied for a thrilling 9-8 victory over the Lady Seahawks, showcasing both offensive prowess and solid pitching.
In the second game, the Lady Seahawks took the early lead. M. Marquez led off with a walk, followed by R. Ramos, who hit a bunt single. Marquez advanced to second and then to third on Ramos's hit. The Lady Seahawks executed a successful double steal, allowing Marquez to score.
The Bears responded by tying the game with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Maddie Robinson opened with an infield single, stole second, and advanced to third on a ground out by Kyla Ashford. Mary Wicke then grounded out to second base, allowing Robinson to score.
In the second inning, the Bears seized a 3-1 lead over the Lady Seahawks. Ashlyn Hebert led off with a double to center field, and Lindsey Hudson followed with a single. Hebert scored on a throwing error by the Seahawks. Olivia Burns then hit a single to right field, and both Burns and Hudson moved up 60 feet on a sacrifice bunt by Rylee Guthrie. Averie Ashford walked to load the bases, and Maddie Robinson's fielder's choice allowed Hudson to score.
The Lady Seahawks regained the lead in the third inning, scoring four runs to make it 5-3. The Bears quickly responded, tying the game again by scoring two runs in the bottom of the third. Mary Wicke led off with a double and scored on a single by Ashlyn Hebert. Hudson reached on a fielder's choice, and Hebert and Hudson executed another double steal, with Hebert scoring and Hudson stealing second.
The Lady Seahawks retook the lead with two runs in the fourth inning, making it 7-5. The Bears closed the gap with a run in the bottom of that inning when Madison Robinson, who reached on an infield single, scored on a double by Mary Wicke. This brought the score to 7-6.
In the fifth inning, the Bears took the lead again, scoring three runs to go up 9-7. Lindsey Hudson and Olivia Burns drew back-to-back walks, and pinch hitter Kennedy Kelly reached a bunt single to load the bases. Hudson scored on a passed ball, then Jardyn Wheeler, pinch hitting, singled to left field, driving in Burns. The Bears executed their second double steal of the game, with Wheeler stealing second and Kelly stealing home, which capped off the three-run inning.
The Lady Seahawks fought back with a solo home run by M. Rosales in the seventh inning. They managed to get two runners on with two outs, but a spectacular diving catch by Ashlyn Hebert in left field ended the Seahawks' rally and secured the Bears' 9-8 victory in game two.
Briley LeBeouf started on the mound for the Bears, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing 5 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Olivia Burns came in for relief, earning the win after pitching 4.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 4. K. Hurt started for the Lady Seahawks, pitching 3 innings, yielding 5 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.
Lamar State College Port Arthur out-hit Baton Rouge 11-10, while the Lady Seahawks committed one error in the game.
