Bears swept by #8 Copiah Lincoln Lady Wolves

The Baton Rouge Bears faced the #8 ranked Copiah Lincoln Lady Wolves at Hartley-Vey Oak Villa Sports Complex for a doubleheader this afternoon. The Lady Wolves swept the Bears, winning both games 10-2 and 2-0.
Game One
The Lady Wolves secured a commanding 10-2 victory over the Bears in a five-inning run rule format. The scoring got underway with a two-run home run to left field by T. Efferson, putting Colin on the board first. The Bears struggled defensively, allowing the Lady Wolves to score three runs in the top of the second inning, bringing the score to 5-0.
The Bears rallied in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs but still trailing 5-2. Baylie Romero and Ashlyn Hebert hit consecutive singles, and both executed a double steal, advancing to second and third base. Eve Fruge reached base on an error, allowing Romero and Hebert to score. After two innings, the Lady Wolves led 5-2.
Colin took advantage of more defensive mistakes by the Bears in the top of the fifth inning, scoring five additional runs to extend their lead to 10-2.
Olivia Burns started in the circle for the Bears and was credited with the loss. She pitched 1.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. Briley LeBeouf (3.1 innings) and Abbey Borel (0.1 innings) provided relief for the Bears. T. Efferson started for the Lady Wolves, earning the win by pitching five innings, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 5 hits while walking 2.

Game Two
The second game of the doubleheader turned into a classic pitching duel, with neither team able to score until the seventh inning. The Lady Wolves broke through in the top of the seventh with two runs. After back-to-back singles to start the inning, B. Phillips delivered a single up the middle that drove in both runners, giving the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead. That was enough for Colin to secure a victory over Baton Rouge.
Maddie Robinson started for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 7 innings and allowing 2 runs on 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6. E. Richards started for the Lady Wolves and earned the victory, pitching 7 innings, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 4.
Colin out-hit Baton Rouge 8 to 2, and the Bears were credited with one error.

With this sweep, the Bears' record fell to 10-8, while the Lady Wolves improved to 9-3. Colin leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 29 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie.
The Bears will continue their mini home stand on Thursday, February 27, 2025, when they host the East Central Community College Lady Warriors in a doubleheader starting at 1 PM at Hartley-Vey Oak Villa Sports Complex.
