Bears sweep Coastal Alabama North Coyotes

Due to inclement weather in the Baton Rouge area, the Baton Rouge Bears and the Coastal Alabama North Coyotes switched home games. This afternoon, the Bears traveled to Monroeville, Alabama, to face the Coyotes in a doubleheader. The Bears swept the Coyotes with scores of 11-3 in five innings and 7-6.
Game One
The Bears secured an 11-3 run-rule victory in five innings thanks to a significant offensive explosion in the fourth inning.
Neither team gained momentum in the first two innings. The Bears broke through to score a run in the third inning, taking the lead when Rylee Guthrie singled to centerfield and scored on an infield single by Lindsey Hudson. However, the Coastal Alabama North Coyotes responded by plating three runs in the bottom of the third, taking a 3-1 lead.
The Bears came alive in the fourth inning, scoring 10 runs and establishing an 11-3 lead over the Coyotes. In that inning, Kyla Ashford and Mary Wicke led off with back-to-back singles. Baylie Romero then singled to centerfield, plating Ashford. Olivia Burns hit a single to center field, but Wicke was thrown out at the plate. Ashlyn Hebert followed with a single up the middle, scoring Romero and tying the game at three. Rylee Guthrie then hit a triple, bringing in Burns and Hebert. Eve Fruge' reached base on an error, allowing Guthrie to score.
Maddie Robinson reached base on another error, plating Fruge. Lindsey Hudson reached on a third Coyote error, followed by Kyla Ashford, who hit her second single of the inning, driving in Robinson. Mary Wicke then hit a double, plating Hudson. Baylie Romero capped off the scoring in the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Ashford, who was tagging from third base. Finally, Mary Wicke stole home to score the Bears' tenth run of the inning.
Abey Borel entered to pitch the fifth inning and retired the Coyotes in order, sealing the 11-3 run-rule victory in game one of the doubleheader.
Briley LeBeouf started for the Bears and earned the victory, pitching four innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three. Abbey Borel pitched one inning in relief. M. Favre started for the Coyotes and took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing nine runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out two.

Game Two
In a tightly contested matchup, the Bears secured a thrilling 7-6 victory against the Coyotes. With the game tied at six, the Bears managed to score a crucial run in the seventh inning and subsequently halted the Coyotes' rally in the bottom of the inning.
The Bears struck first, scoring two runs in the opening inning. Lindsey Hudson led off with a single, followed by Kyla Ashford, who drew a walk. Both players advanced and scored after tagging up on a pop fly to right field hit by Mary Wicke.
However, the Coyotes responded in the second inning, capitalizing on fielding errors by the Bears to score three runs and take a 3-2 lead. They extended their advantage with another run in the fourth inning, making the score 4-2 in their favor. The Bears fought back in the fifth inning, scoring to bring the score to 4-3. Kyla Ashford again started the rally with a single, scoring after Baylie Romero reached base due to another Coyotes' error.
The Coyotes, undeterred, added two more runs in the fifth inning, pushing their lead to 6-3. In response, the Bears mounted an impressive comeback in the sixth inning, tying the game at six. Ashlyn Hebert led off with a single, scoring on a triple from Rylee Guthrie. Following a fielding error by the Coyotes, Kennedy Kelly reached base and Guthrie also scored. Lindsey Hudson then reached base on another Coyotes' error, allowing Kelly to cross the plate and tie the game.
In the seventh inning, Mary Wicke began the Bears' winning push with a single to left field. Meaux Carroll pinch ran for Wicke and advanced quickly, stealing second and reaching third on a passed ball. Ashlyn Hebert's reach on an error allowed Carroll to score, giving the Bears a 7-6 lead. The Coyotes attempted to rally in their half of the seventh inning but ultimately fell short.
Ashton Duhon started on the mound for the Bears, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. Devyn Latiolais was brought in as relief, earning the victory after pitching 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out three. Jennifer Fontenot also pitched 1.2 innings in relief. R Johnson started for the Coyotes but took the loss, pitching the full game and allowing seven runs (three earned) on eight hits, with four walks and three strikeouts.

With this victory, the Bears improved their record to 10-6, while the Coyotes fell to 1-11 for the season. The Bears also lead the all-time series against Coastal Alabama North with nine wins and five losses.
Next up, the Bears will travel to Port Arthur, Texas, on Friday, February 21, and Saturday, February 22, to compete against Lamar State College Port Arthur and Kilgore College.
