Bears Softball Splits with Hinds Lady Eagles

The Baton Rouge Bears concluded their home stand this afternoon with a doubleheader against the Hinds Community College Lady Eagles.The Bears and the Lady Eagles would split the day with the Eagles winning game one 4-1 and the Bears winning game two 2-1.
Game One
The Baton Rouge Bears fell short in game one against the Hinds Lady Eagles, losing by a score of 4-1 at Hartley Vey Oak Villa Sports Complex.
Hinds got on the board first with a run, scoring after hitting back-to-back singles and executing a double steal. The Bears responded in the bottom of the first inning when Kennedy Kelly reached on a bunt single and advanced to third on a double to left field by Mary Wicke. Kelly then scored on a ground out to the second baseman by Baylie Romero, tying the game at one.
However, the Lady Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the third inning after capitalizing on a Bears' error. They added another run in the top of the fifth, but Olivia Burns came in to pitch for the Bears and stranded the bases loaded. Hinds extended their lead with a run in the sixth inning. The Bears struggled to string together hits and ultimately dropped game one by a score of 4-1.
Briley LeBoeuf started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 4 innings and allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 2 and walking 0. Olivia Burns pitched 3 innings in relief. K. Chandler started for Hinds and earned the win, pitching 7 innings while allowing 1 run on 5 hits, walking 1, and striking out 2.
Hinds outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 5, and the Bears committed four errors during the game.

Game Two
The BRCC Bears would rally late to earn the 2-1 game two victory over the Hinds Lady Eagles.
In game two, Hinds struck first with a solo home run by M. Bruner in the fourth inning. The Bears tied the game in the bottom of the same inning when Ashlyn Hebert led off with a single, advanced to second on a ground out by Baylie Romero, and moved to third on a bunt single by Eve Fruge. Hebert then scored on a wild pitch, making the score 1-1.
The Bears took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Lindsey Hudson led off with a single up the middle. She scored on a double by Kyla Ashford, putting the Bears ahead 2-1 after six innings.
Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and earned the victory. Maddie pitched a complete game allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking one and striking out 7. K. Forsyth started for the Lady Eagles. She pitched 1.2 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 1. A. Armentor took the loss for the Lady Eagles. She pitched 2 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 3. Baton Rouge outhit Hinds 7 to 3, and neither team was credited with an error in this game.

With the split, the Bears improved to 5-5, while Hinds moved to 4-2. Hinds leads the all-time series with 9 wins to Baton Rouge's 5.
The Bears will travel to Summit, Mississippi, next Thursday, February 13, to take on the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears in a doubleheader starting at 2 PM.
