Bears Softball drop a pair of games to #4 Co-Lin Lady Wolves

Baton Rouge Bears Softball team traveled to Wesson, Mississippi, this afternoon,  to take on the NJCAA Division II Defending National Champions the Co-Lin Lady Wolves. The #4 Lady Wolves would sweep the Bears 5-2 and 9-4.

 

Game One

Game one was the story of the long ball. All the runs in the game except for one was scored off a homerun. In the end the Lady Wolves would hit two - two run homer runs to take the 5 to 2 victory over the Bears.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first via a two run home run to left field by Molly Sistrunk, in the top of the first inning. Co-Lin would tie the game at one,  in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Wolves would take the lead, in the second inning, via a two run homer to centerfield by Moak. After two innings, the Lady Wolves led the Bears 3 to 2. The Lady Wolves would tact on two more runs in the third inning via a two run homer to left field by K. Ainsworth. After three inning, the Lady Wolves would hold a 5 to 2 lead over the Bears. 

After the first inning two run explosion by the Bears, they struggled to get anything else going in game one.

Olivia Burns came in in the third inning and kept the Lady Wolves off balanced at the plate but the damage was already done as the Co-Lin Lady Wolves would defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 5 to 2.

Macy Castleman started in the circle for the Bears and was credited with the loss. Catsleman pitched 2 innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. Olivia Burns pitched in relief for the Bears. C. Boswell started in the circle for the Lady Wolves. She pitched a complete game victory for the Lady Wolves. She allowed 2 runs in 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 9.

Co- Lin outhit  Baton Rouge 10 to 3. Col-Lin committed three errors compared to one for Baton Rouge.

 

Bears Game One Highlights:

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 homer.

Kylee Dulyea went 2 for 3

 

Game Two

Game two was a back and forth game until the sixth inning when the Lady Wolves' bats would come alive to score six runs, in the inning, to seal the 8 to 4 victory over the Bears.

Co-Lin would get on the board first when they would steal home for the first run of the ballgame. The Lady Wolves would add to their lead, in the second inning,  via a solo homer to centerfield by L. Phillips. After two innings, the Lady Wolves held a 2-0 lead over the Bears. The Bears would tie the game at two, then take the lead, in the fifth inning. Eve Fruge' and Hannah Abshire would hit back to back singles. Kennedy Kelly would reach on an error when she attempted to bunt. Fruge' and Abshire would score on the third basemen error to tie the game at two. The Bears would take the lead, when Kelly would score on a sac fly by Desi Robinson.

Co-Lin would tie the game at three, in the bottom of the fifth inning. Baton Rouge would respond and retake the lead with a run, in the top of the sixth inning. Meaux Carroll would lead off the inning with a single to left field.  Kylee Dulyea would lay down a bunt and Carroll would score on a Lady Wolves' error. The Bears lead was short lived this time as the Lady Wolves would erupt for six runs, in the bottom of the six inning, to take a 8 to 4 lead in which they would not relinquish.

Jennifer Fontenot started in the circle for the Bears and as credited with the loss. She pitched 5 innings allowing 6 runs on 9 hits while striking out 5 and walking 2. Bailey Smith pitched in relief for the Bears. T. Efferson started in the circle for the Lady Wolves and earned the victory. 

Co-Lin outhit Baton Rouge 11 to 7. The Bears committed three errors compared to two for the Lady Wolves.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Desi Robinson had 1 RBI.

Meaux Carroll went 1 for 2 with 1 run.

Lily Wainwright went 1 for 3

Eve Fruge' went 3 for 3 with 1 run.

Hannah Abshire went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

Kennedy Kelly had 1 run.

 

With the pair of losses the Bears fell to 9-13while the Lady Wolves improved to 5-1 on the season.

The Bears will return to action this weekend as they travel to Perkinston, Mississippi on Friday and Saturday March 1-2 to take part in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Tournament. They will take on Bishop State on Friday March 1 at 10 am and  12:30 pm. They will face Central Alabama Community College on Saturday March 2 at 10 am and 12:30 pm.
