Lady Bears drop 2 to Lady Wildcats

The Lady Bears traveled to Poplarville, Mississippi today to take on the Pearl River Lady Wildcats.  The Lady Bears would get swept by the Lady Wildcats.  They would lose game one 4 to 3 and game two 12 to 4 in five innings.

 

The Lady Bears would get on the board first with a run in the first innings. Sydnee Davis would get hit by a pitch and score on a Brooke Romano single to right field.  Pearl River would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at one. Pearl River would capitalize on a Lady Bear's error in the third inning to score two runs to take a 3 to 1 lead, after three innings.  The Lady Wildcats would tact on another run, in the fourth inning, via a S. Runnel homer to left field. The Lady Bears would claw their way back ,in the sixth inning, with 2 runs. Bailey Duhon would lead off with a double to centerfield. Brooke Romano would follow with a single to centerfield. Courtney Ortego would then hit a double scoring Bailey and Brooke. The Lady Bears would close the gap to 4 to 3 after six innings but that would be as close as they would get in game one.  Baton Rouge drops game one 4 to 3 to Pearl River.

Grace Stringer earned the victory for the Pearl River Lady Wildcats. She pitched five and a third innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out two. Leanne Lain earned the loss for the Lady Bears.  She pitched six innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2.

Lady Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 4

Krystal Stubbs went 1 for 4

Bailey Duhon went 1 for 4 with 1 run

Brooke Romano went 3 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Courtney Ortego went 1 for 2 with 2RBIs

Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 1 with 1 BB

 

In game two, the Lady Bears would score first but a huge first inning by Pearl River would be too much to overcome as the Lady Bears would drop game to 12 to 4 in a five-inning run rule.

The Lady Bears would score one run in the first when Kaitley Fisher would lead off the game and reach base when she was hit by a pitch. Fisher would score when Bailey Duhon would reach on an error.  Pearl River would explode for 7 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a commanding 7 to 1 lead. Pearl River would tact onto their lead with a run in the second, third and fourth innings.  The Lady Bears would pick up another run in the fourth inning when Frashaylon Angelle would hit a homer to centerfield.  After four innings, Pearl River led 10 to 2 over Baton Rouge. The Lady Bears would score two more runs in the fifth, but it was not enough as Pearl River would add two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 12 to 4 run rule victory.

Gracie Barnett eared the victory for Pearl River. She pitched five innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6. Jodi Broussard earned the loss for the Lady Bears.  Jodi pitched one-third innings allowing 5 runs on 2 hits. Saylor Young pitched in relief for the Lady Bears. 

 

Lady Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Kaitley Fisher went 1 for 2 with 2 runs

Brooke Romano went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

Frashaylon Angelle went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI- including a homer

 

After being swept, the Lady Bears are now 1-7 on the season.

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action Tuesday February 18 as they travel to Raymond, MS to take on the Hinds Lady Eagles in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
