Six Bears selected for LCCAC Honors

The coaches from Delgado, BRCC, and SUSLA in the Louisiana Community College Athletic Conference (LCCAC) have announced the 2025 conference awards. The Bears had six student-athletes recognized, and Head Coach Byron Starks was named Coach of the Year. Sophomore guard Kialen Phillips received the top honor as the LCCAC Player of the Year.
Kialen Phillips, a sophomore guard from Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, was selected as the LCCAC Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team. He started all six conference games, scoring 131 points, with 36 rebounds, 13 assists, 6 steals and 1 block. Kialen proved to be a true leader both on and off the court for the Bears this year.
Courtney McCarthy, a sophomore guard from Monroe, Louisiana, was also named to the All-Conference First Team. He started all six conference games, scoring 115 points and contributing 19 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. Courtney developed into a more well-rounded basketball player in his second season. While he had always been a great shooter, his improved defensive performance was key to the Bears' success this season.
Awak Machar, a sophomore guard from Adelaide, Australia, was selected for the All-Conference Second Team. He played in all six conference games, scoring 46 points and grabbing 24 rebounds, along with 5 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks.
McKennis Savoie, a freshman guard from Washington, Louisiana, was named to the All-Defensive Team. He participated in all six conference games and was a vital asset off the Bears' bench, scoring 29 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, while also providing 7 assists and 4 steals.
Imran Deen, a sophomore forward from Freetown, Sierra Leone, was selected for the All-Defensive Team as well. Deen started in four of the Bears' conference games, scoring 35 points and recording 32 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 steals, and 6 blocks. He was a formidable presence in the paint, causing significant challenges for opposing teams.
Troy Joseph, a sophomore guard from West Palm Beach, Florida, made the All-Defensive Team too. Troy started in three of the Bears' six conference games and was a true floor general. During conference play, he scored 19 points, with 37 rebounds, 25 assists, 4 steals, and 1 block.
Head Coach Byron Starks was named Conference Coach of the Year. In his second season as the Bears' Head Coach, he led the team to a 20-9 overall record and a perfect 6-0 in the conference. His team achieved conference champions for the second consecutive year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Region 23 tournament.

Baton Rouge finished the season with a record of 20 wins and 9 losses, achieving a perfect 6-0 in conference play. The Bears captured the regular season conference championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Region 23 tournament, where they eventually lost to the top-seeded Jones Bobcats. This season, the Bears set a new program record for the most wins in a single season and went undefeated in conference play, securing their second consecutive LCCAC Championship.
