Late Run lifts Bears to the Victory over Southern Shreveport

The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the Southern Shreveport Port City Jags on the hardwood to complete the first round of LCCAC games for the Bears.
The first half was a competitive back-and-forth match between the two teams. The Bears opened the scoring with a basket from Kailen Phillips, but the Port City Jags quickly answered with the next 11 points, taking an 11–2 lead. However, the Bears regained their offensive momentum, going on a 10-1 run to tie the game at 12 with just over 14 minutes remaining. The Bears continued to build on that momentum, establishing a six-point lead at 22-16 with nine minutes left in the half. The Port City Jags responded with a run of their own, tying the game at 22 with seven minutes remaining. The score was knotted again at 27 and 34 before Dylan Dominique of the Bears converted one of two free throws with 14 seconds left, giving the Bears a 35-34 lead at halftime.
The second half mirrored the first, with both teams trading baskets and leads. After the game was tied at 41, the Port City Jags surged ahead, outscoring the Bears 12-3 to take their largest lead of the game at 51-44. The Bears kept chipping away at the Jags' advantage. Dylan Dominique hit back-to-back three-pointers, pushing the Bears to a 67-64 lead with five minutes remaining. The Bears received significant contributions down the stretch from Dominique, Christian Myers, and Kialen Phillips, ultimately securing an 80-70 conference victory.
Kialen Phillips led the Bears with 23 points and 8 rebounds, while Courtney McCarthy added 20 points and 7 rebounds, and Dylan Dominique scored 10 points.
With this victory, the Bears improved to 11-8 (2-0), while the Port City Jags fell to 8-8 (0-1). Southern Shreveport holds a 24-20 all-time series lead over Baton Rouge.

Courtney McCarthy added 20 points and 7 rebounds.
Dylan Dominique scored 10 points.
The Bears will step out of conference play on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, when they face the Baton Rouge Post Grad Academy Aces at 7:30 PM in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
