Men’s Basketball All LCCAC Selection

The LCCAC Conference coaches from Delgado, BRCC and SUSLA have come together to select the 2024 Louisiana Community College Athletic Conference Awards. The Bears had six student athletes selected for various awards and Head Coach Byron Starks was named Coach of the Year.

Courtney McCarthy a freshman small forward Monroe,Louisiana and Richwood High School was selected to the All-Conference First Team. Courtney played in all six conference games where he started four. He scored 57 points  with 21 rebounds, 10 steals, 4 assist and 1 block. Courtney was a great spark on the offensive end of the floor for the Bears. His accuracy from behind the arc helped the Bears stay in and win many games throughout the season.

Jarrell Love, a sophomore guard from Fort Worth, Texas and Crowley High School was selected to the All-Conference Second Team.  Jarrell played in six conference games where he started five for the Bears. He scored 52 points with 34 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 blocks and 3 assist in those games. Jarrell became the go to player down the stretch for the Bears. In the LCCAC championship games against the Southern Shreveport Jags, Jarrell led the Bears with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Jarrell was named to the 2023 All Conference Second team during his freshman season at BRCC.

Jaylen Streeter, a freshman guard from Oakland, CA and Strength N Motion Prep School  was selected to the All Conference Second team. Jaylen played in all six conference games where he came off the bench for the Bears. He scored 48 points with 16 rebounds, 8 assist, 5 steals and 3 blocks in those games.  He transition from point guard to a solid off guard/ shooting guard for the Bears. He has a great sense of floor awareness and feel for the game of basketball.

Jaiden Lee, a sophomore guard from Chicago, IL and West Campus High School was selected to the Conference Honorable Mention Team. Jaiden played in five of the six conference games for the Bears. He was a great spark plug off the bench for the Bears. He scored 36 points with 24 rebounds, 5 assist, 3 steals and 1 block in conference play.

Seviuhn Turner, a sophomore guard from Baton Rouge, La and Madison Prep High School. Seviuhn previously played at LSUE and came to BRCC with Coach Starks. He was selected to the Conference Honorable Mention team and the Conference All Defensive Team. Seviuhn played in all six conference games where he started five. He scored 46 points with 35 rebounds, 7 assist, 12 steals and 2 blocks in conference games.  Seviuhn was a true leader on and off the floor for the Bears this season.

Dashaunte Cormier-Bellard, a freshman guard from Rayne, Louisiana and Rayne High School was named to the Conference All Defensive Team. DJ was a mid season addition to the Bears lineup and took advantage of his opportunity quickly. He has a great floor awareness and basketball IQ. He was a true floor general for the Bears both on the offensive and defensive end of the floor throughout the year. He started all six conference games for the Bears. He scored 35 points with 27 rebounds, 30 assist, 10 steals and 1 block in those conference games.

Head Coach Byron Starks was named Conference Coach of the Year. Coach Starks is in his first  season as the Bears' Head Coach.  This season he led his team to a 14-13 overall record and an 4-2 conference record.  His  Bears' team were conference chapions and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Region 23 tournament.

Baton Rouge finished the season 14-13 and 4-2 in conference play. The Bears captured the regular season conference championship and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Region 23 tournament eventually losing to the #1 seed Jones Bobcats.
