Bears Basketball hold off late Dolphins rally to win road conference game

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled down to New Orleans this afternoon to wrap up the second round of conference play against the Delgado Dolphins in the Michael Williamson Center. The Bears would jump out to an early lead and hold off the Dolphins late rally to earn the 72 to 62 victory this afternoon.

In the first half, the first 10 minutes of the half was a back-and-forth battle between the two ball clubs with neither team having a lead greater than three points. In the last ten minutes the Bears would clamp down on the defensive end and go on a mini 22 to 8 run to open a 15-point lead at the half;37-22. In the first half, the Bears got a lot of ball movement on the offensive end which helped them better facilitate their offense.  Everyone on the Bears bench got involved in both phases of the game, in the half. They also limited the Dolphins to single possession and controlled the boards, in the first half. 

In the second half, the Bears continued their aggressive defensive pressure and grew their lead to 22 with 12:33 remaining; 57-35. The Dolphins would not go away as they would claw their way back into the ball game with points in the paint. For the game Delgado would score 48 of their 62 points in the paint. The Bears would settle down and stop the Dolphins' comeback and they would earn the 72 to 62 conference victory this afternoon.

Baton Rouge Bears were led in scoring by Reginald Gause and JaQualon Lovette who each had 17 points. Jalvin Mitchell led the Dolphins with a game high 21 points.

With the victory the Bears improve to 9-12, 3-3, while the Dolphins fall to 6-15, 0-6 on the season.

Jayhlon Young scofed8 points with 8 Rebounds, 3 assist and 1 steal

Darian Pierce Jr. added 7 points with 1 rebound, 2 assist and 1 steal.

 

The Bears will be back in action this Wednesday February 16 as they take on conference opponents the LSUE Bengals at 7:30 in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on the BRCC MidCity Campus.
