Bears Basketball earn first conference road win!

The Baton Rouge Bears finally put all the phases of the game together tonight to earn the 70 to 53 conference victory over the Delgado Dolphins, in the Michael Williamson Center on the campus of Delgado Community College.

The first half was a back-and-forth game between the two ball clubs for the first 12 minutes.  In that time span the game saw 4 ties and 6 lead changes.  With the game being tied at 18, with 7:10 remaining in the half, the Bears would go on a 17-9 run to close out the half with an 8-point lead; 35-27.

Early in the second half, Bears guard Reginal Gause would score 7 of the 10 bears points to increase their lead to 11 with 17 minutes remaining. The Bears would clamp down on the defensive end, forcing the Dolphins to play the full length of the floor.  It was also a complete team effort for the Bears, as everyone played, and the Bears' bench would outscore the Dolphins bench 26 to 14. The Bears would increase their lead to 17 points with 6:15 remaining and would hold on to that margin of victory;70 to 53.    

 Freshman guard Jayhlon Young led the Bears with a double- double- 20 points and 12 rebounds. Reginald Gause also had a double-double for the Bears, 12 points and 10 rebounds. Delgado was led in scoring by Tylor Harris and Jalvin Mitchell with 13 each.

With the victory, Baton Rouge improves to 7-11, 1-2 while Delgado falls to 6-13,0-3 on the season.

Bears Highlights:

Jayhlon Young led the Bears with 17 points and 12 rebounds, 4 assist, 1 steal and 1 block

Jacob Barry added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist

Reginald Gause scored 12 points with 10 points, 3 assist and 1 steal

Darian Pierce Jr. added 10 points, 2 rebounds,1 assist and 1 steal

 

The Bears will continue their road trip with a 4 pm game in Eunice, LA on Saturday February 5 versus the LSUE Bengals in the HPRE Center.
