Bears fall at home to SUSLA

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Southern Shreveport Port City Jags faced off in the Bonn Sante Wellness Center, this afternoon, in a conference match-up.  In the end, the Bears could not slow down the high powered aggressive Southern Shreveport thus falling 72 to 61.

In the first half, the game was fast paced between both ball clubs. It was a back-and-forth game for the first five minutes. With 15:04 remaining, in the half, the Bears led 7 to 6. Southern Shreveport would go on a mini run led by their transition offensive. They would go on a 12 to 5 run to take a18 to 12 leads with 10 minutes remaining. The Bears would rally back to tie the game twice in next four minutes. The Port City Jags would close the half on a 10 to 3 run to take a 30 to 23 lead into halftime.  In the first half the Port City Jags were very active on the defensive end, forcing multiple Bears turnovers which led to transition buckets.  The Jags also held an advantage on the boards.

In the half, the Bears found a bit more rhythm on the offensive end but still struggled to contain the Jags on the boards as well as in transition.  The Bears did cut the Jags lead to 10 several times, in the second half, but could not get any closer.  The Southern Shreveport Port City Jags defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 72 to 61.

The Bears were led in scoring by freshman guard Jayhlon Young with 13 points. The Southern Shreveport Port City Jags were led in scoring by Kashie Natt with 19 points.

With the victory Southern Shreveport improves to 5-10,2-0 in conference play while, Baton Rouge falls to 6-11, 0-2 on the season.

Bears Highlights:

Jayhlon Young led all Bears with 13 points

Morantz James and JaQualon Lovette each added 11 points

Reginald Gause scored 10 points.

 

The Bears will hit the road this Wednesday February 2, 2022, to take on the Delgado Dolphins at 7:30 pm in New Orleans.
