Second half offensive explosion propels the Bears to victory

Second half offensive explosion propels the Bears to victory

Monday January 24, 2022: Men's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

The Baton Rouge Bears would square off this evening against another Houston based prep school, Good Vision Academy to finish off their non-conference schedule.  The Bears and the Wolves would claw back and forth, in the first half, but a second half scoring explosion by the Bears lifts them to a 67 to 54 victory, tonight in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.

In the first half, each team would have their runs and it was an evenly matched ball game. Good Vision would score the first two points of the ball game, but the Bears were quick to tie the game on a Jeremiah Willis jumper. Midway through the first half, the Bears would go on a 9 to 2 run to take a 21 to 12 lead over the Wolves with 8:57 remaining.  Good Vision would close out the half on a 15 to 7 run to pull within one at the break 28-27.

In the first five minutes of the second half, the Bears exploded on the offensive end outscoring Good Vision 16 to 3 to take a commanding 44 to 30 lead with 15:04 remaining.  The explosion included three consecutive three pointers by freshman guard Morantz James, four points by freshman post Kemar Benn and a three pointer by Freshman guard Jayhlon Young. The Bears would continue to play solid defensive limiting Good Vision to 27 second half points.  On the offensive side, the Bears moved the ball well and got everyone involved in the game plan.

The Bears would use that second half offensive explosion to secure the 67 to 54 victories over Good Vision Academy tonight in the Bears Den.

The Bears were led in scoring by freshman guard Jayhlon Young with 20 points. Good Vision was led in scoring by Kevin Giles with 9 points.

With the victory the Bears improve to 6-9 on the season.

Bears Highlights:

Jayhlon Young led all Bears with a game high 20 points

Morantz James added 12 points-(3 consecutive three pointers in the second half)

Jordan Randall added 9 points
