Bears shake off the rust to defeat Oakleaf Post Grad

The Baton Rouge Bears Basketball team had not played a game since December 9, 2021, due to the Christmas holiday break and some COVID-19 issues after the New Year and it showed early in tonight's game. The Bears had to knock off some rust  to secure the 71 to 68 victory, this evening, against the Oakleaf Post Grad Basketball Academy.                                                                                                                                                                 

In the first half, the Bears were very sluggish on both ends of the floor due to the long break.  Oakleaf took advantage of the Bears' sluggishness to jump out to a 11 to 4 lead with 15:48 to play in the half. The Bears would rally and go on a 16 to 7 run to tie the game at 20 with 9:10. The last minutes of the first half was a back-and-forth battle between the Bears and Oakleaf. Jayhlon Young would hit a jumper with .8 second to tie the game at 34 heading into halftime.

The second half was again a back-and-forth affair between the two ball clubs. This time the Bears had the lead and Oakleaf would rally to tie the game at 58 with 4:48 let to play. Jayhlong Young would again hit a jumper to regain the lead for the Bears which they would not relinquish; 61 to 58. Jayhlong Young would score 8 of his game high 26 points, in the final minute of the game, to secure the Bears 71 to 68 victory.                        

The Bears were led in scoring by Jayhlon Young with 26 points. Oakleaf was led in scoring by Kodi West with 19 points.

With the victory the Bears improve to 4-8 on the season.

 

Bears Highlights:

Jayhlon Young led all Bears in scoring with a game high 26 points.

Kemar Benn added 11 points

Jeremiah Willis added 7 points

 

The Bear will be back in action Saturday January 15, as they travel to Marianna, Florida to take on the #9 ranked Chipola College at 1 pm in the Milton H. Johnson Center.
