Bears dominate en route to home Victory !

After a much-needed break for final exams, a rested Bears Basketball team dominated both ends of the floor, this afternoon, to grab the 79 to 58 victory over the Mississippi Delta Trojans, in the Bears Den.

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Mississippi Delta Trojans traded baskets for the first 6 minutes of the first half. With 14:56 to play in the half, the Bears led the Trojans 7 to 6. For the next eight minutes, the Bears would go on a 17 to 9 run to take a commanding 24 to 15 lead. The Bears would lock down on some full court defense and force the Trojans into some turnovers. The Bears also took advantage of some hot outside shooting by Reginald Gause and Morantz James who combined to connect on four three pointers, in the half. Also, the Bears had an advantage on the boards, and they capitalized on those second chance possessions. The Trojans would go on a mini 13 to 7 run to close out the first half. Baton Rouge led at the half; 42 to 28.

In the second half, the Baton Rouge Bears continued their aggressive defense and continued their hot shooting on the offensive end. The Bears played a full 40 minutes of solid and aggressive defense. Baton Rouge held Mississippi Delta to only 30 second half points. The Bears outscored the Trojans 37 to 30, in the second half, to secure the 79 to 58 Region 23 victory.

The Bears were led in scoring by Freshman Morantz James with a game high 20 points. The Bears had five student athletes in double figures. The Trojans were led in scoring by Willie Eagins Jr. with 17 points

With the victory Baton Rouge improves to 2-8, while Mississippi Delta falls to 2-8 on the season.

Bears Highlights:

Morantz James led the Bears with 20 points

JaQualon Lovette scored 15 points

Jayhlon Young added 13 points

Reginald Gause added 11 points

 

The Bear will be back in action Thursday December 9, 2021, as they travel to Perkinston, Mississippi to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs at 6 pm in Weathers-Wentzel Center.
