Bears Basketball fall to Mississippi Gulf Coast

Bears Basketball fall to Mississippi Gulf Coast

Tuesday November 23, 2021: Men's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

The Baton Rouge Bears could not control the high-powered offense of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs, tonight in the Bears Den, as they fall 82 to 63.

The first half was a very fast paced game between the two ball clubs. After the game was tied at 5 with 18:45, the Bulldogs would go on a 12 to 4 run to take an 18 to 9 lead with 13:41 left in the half. Baton Rouge would respond with a 15 to 6 run to tie the game at 24 with 9 minutes left in the half. Reginald Gause would hit a jumper,  for the Bears, to tie the game at 24. Jeremiah Willis would get his own rebound and score on a put back to give the Bears a 26 to 24 lead, with 7:22. During the Bears run, they clamped down on defense forcing the Bulldogs into some turnovers which they converted into transition buckets. It would be a back-and-forth game for the next three minutes as the game would be tied three times, in that time span. The Bulldogs would break the game open a bit before halftime,  with a 13 to 5 run,  to close out the half with a 43 to 35 lead over the Bears. The Bulldogs capitalized on their inside/out game during that last run of the half.

The second half belonged to the Bulldogs. The Bears could not find a way to slow down the Bulldogs high-powered offense.  The Bears struggled to find any kind of rhythm of their own on the offensive end of the floor. The Bulldogs outscored the Bears 39 to 27, in the second half, leading them to 82 to 63 Region 23 victory tonight, in the Bears Den.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Donovan Sanders with 19 points. The Bulldogs had 4 student-athletes score in double figures. The Bears were led in scoring by Jayhlon Young with 21 points.

With the victory Mississippi Gulf Coast improves to 6-1, while Baton Rouge falls to 1-8 on the season.
