Baton Rouge falls to Jones College in first ever meeting

Jones College Bobcats and the Baton Rouge Bears meet for the first time, this afternoon on the hardwood. The Bobcats would use a late second half surge to grab the 75 to 57 victory over the Bears, this afternoon in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.

The first half was a back-and-forth game between the Bobcats and the Bears till the final two minutes of the half when the Bobcats would go on a 9 to 2 run to close out the half and take a 10-point lead: 38-28. Baton Rouge would open the game on a 6-0 run with two quick threes by Jayhlon Young and Jase Augustus to take the early lead. The Bobcats would go on a 6-0 run of their own to tie the game at six with 14:55 left in the half. The half would be classified with each team going on various runs with four ties and seven lead changes.

Early in the  second half each team would fight off the other teams' best punches. Each team turned up their pressure on the defensive end and both teams find a bit of a rhythm on the offensive end. Baton Rouge came within two points;48-46 with 11:22 left to play when JaQulaon Lovette would hit two free throws due to a technical foul called on Jones. From that point, Jones College would go on a 26 to 11 run to end the game and take the 75 to 57 victories over Baton Rouge.

Jones College was led in scoring by D. Payton with 20 points. The Bobcats had 3 student athletes on double figures. Baton Rouge was led in scoring by freshman guard Morantz James with 11 points. The Bears had two student athletes in double figures.

With the victory Jones College improves to 4-0, while Baton Rouge Bears fall to 0-5.

Bears Highlights:

Morantz James led all Bears with 11 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist

JaQualon Lovette added 10 points with 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal

Jayhlon Young scored 5 points and grabbed 7 rebounds

Darian Pierce Jr., Kaevon Jones, Jordan Randall and Keyontae Huff each scored 5 points

The Bears will return to action when they play Hinds Community College on Monday November 15 at 5 pm in Summit, Mississippi. The Bears are taking part in the Southwest Mississippi Tournament.
