Bears come from behind to defeat SUSLA Jags

Like the women's team the Baton Rouge Bears begin their final conference swing, starting with the Southern Shreveport Port City Jags. The Bears would pull off a 66 to 57 comeback victory over the Port City Jags this afternoon in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.

The first five minutes of the half was a back-and-forth affair between the two teams. In that period the game saw six lead changes and one tie. The Jags would use the long ball to extend their lead to 11; 22 to 11 with 9:50 to play. The Bears would claw back and go on a 14 to 4 run to pull within one;26 to 25 with 1:50 to play. Southern Shreveport would hold a slim 28 to 25 lead over Baton Rouge at the half.

In the second half, the Bears would scratch their way back into the game and tie the game at 38 with 13:40 to play. Julius Ellerbe III would steal an errant Jags pass to score the lay-up and get fouled on the play. Ellerbe would miss the free throw that would have given the Bears the lead. The Jags would go on a mini 5 to 1 run to take a 45 to 41 lead with 11:35. The Bears would pull within one with two free throws by Rodney Felton;45 to 44. Cameron Massey would give the Bears a one-point lead ;46 to 45 with a pair of free throws with 9 minutes to play. The Bears and the Jags would trade the lead over the next two minutes. Ngor Nai would tie the game at 52 when he would rebound a Kaevon Jones missed free throw and hit a corner 3 pointer. Ngor Nai would strike again with another 3 pointers to give the Bears a 55 to 52 lead. Over the next four minutes, the Bears would extend their lead to 14;  66 to 52.  The Bears would defeat the Port City Jags 66 to 57, this afternoon in the Bear's Den.

 

With the victory Baton Rouge Bears improve to 6-8,4-6 in conference play, while the Southern Shreveport Port City Jags falls to 3-11,1-9 on the season.

The Bears will play their final regular season home game this Wednesday March 24, when they take on conference rivals the Delgado Dolphins at 7:30 pm.
