Delgado Dolphins rally to defeat Bears

Baton Rouge Bears let one slip away from them tonight in the Williamson Center. Delgado would rally, in the second half, to grab the 71 to 66 comeback conference victory.

The game was back and forth for the first seven minutes. In that time frame, the game saw two ties and four lead changes. The Bears would find their rhythm on offense, after the game was tied at 11. The Bears would go on a 15 to 4 run over the next five minutes to take a 26 to 15 lead. The Bears largest lead of the first half would be 11 points. Unfortunately for the Bears, Delgado offense would come to life, in the final six minutes of the half. The Dolphins would outscore the Bears 19 to 9 to take a two-point lead into the half; 37 to 35.

 

The Bears would come out of the half with a purpose and a mission to regain the lead and play better on the defensive end of the floor. The Bears would quickly tie the game at 37 with a bucket by Erlyn Ramirez. They would take the lead with a Cameron Massey floater in the lane; 39-37. Delgado would tie the game at 39 with 18:03. The Bears would build their largest lead of the second half 12 points with 8 minutes left to play.  Like the first half, the Bears' offense went cold, and the Dolphins started hitting shots from the outside. Delgado went on a  12 to 0 run with 5:21 to play to pull within of the one of the Bears: 59-58.  Delgado would get fouled on a three pointer. They would make all free throws to take a 61 to 59 lead. The Bears would try to rally but could not overcome the Delgado comeback. Baton Rouge falls 71 to 66. 

The Bears were led in scoring by Erlyn Ramirez with 22 points. Delgado was led in scoring by Donte Mitchell with 19 points. Delgado had 4 student athletes in double figures. Baton Rouge had two.

 

Bears Game Highlights:

Erlyn Ramirez led all Bears with 22 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

Julius Ellerbe III scored 11 points with 6 rebounds, 4 assists m 2 steals and 1 block.

Kaevon Jones added 8 points with 5 rebounds and 1 assist.

 

With the victory Delgado Dolphins improve to 8-4, 5-3, in conference play, while Baton Rouge Bears fall to 5-7,3-5 on the season.

 

Next up for the Bears will be a rematch with the LSUE Bengals at 7:30pm back home in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
