Bears survive to earn conference victory over SUSLA

Baton Rouge would pull off a comeback victory this evening versus the Southern Shreveport Port City Jags; 63-62.

It was a sluggish first seven minutes for both teams. In that time frame the game saw six lead changes and only 8 points scored by each team. With 13:38 in the half, the game was tied at 8. The Port City Jags would go on a mini 12 to 6 run to open up a six point lead; 20-14 with 7 minutes left in the half. The Bears would tie the game when Kaevon  Jones would score a bucket and get fouled on the play. Kaevon would make the free throw to tie the game at 20 with 4:54.  Southern Shreveport would end the half on a 13- 5 run to take a 33 to 25 lead into the break.

Southern Shreveport would come out the locker room  and build an 11 point lead 41-30 with 16:48 left in the game. The Bears would tie the game at 57 on two free throws by Cameron Massey, with 3:54. The Bears would take the lead on a Cameron Massey jumper with 1:38 left; 61-60. KeiDren Rose would extend the Bears lead with a basket with 1 minute left in the game ; 63-60. Shreveport would pull within one with two free throws with .49 seconds remaining. The Bears had their chance to ice the game but KeiDren Rose would miss two free throws. The Jags had a chance to win the game but their last second shot would be off and the Bears would survive with the 63 to 62 victory.

The Bears were led in scoring by Cameron Massey with 20 points

With the victory, the Bears improve to 4-5, 2-3 in conference play while Southern Shreveport falls to 2-5, 0-3 on the season 

 

Bears Game Highlights:

Cameron Massey led the Bears with 20 points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Steals and 2 Blocks 

Erlyn Ramirez scored 14 points with 6 Rebounds, 1 Assists and 1 Steal

Kevon Jones added 9 points and 2 Rebounds 

Jayhlon Young scored 8 points with 5 Rebounds, 6 Assists and 4 steals.

 

Next up for the Bears will be a Wednesday road trip to New Orleans to face conference opponent Delgado Dolphins at 7:30 pm in the Williamson Center.
