Dolphins pull away late to defeat the Bears

Baton Rouge Bears started out slow but rallied back to fall short to the Delgado Dolphins by the final score of 78 to 70 this evening in the Crescent City.

The Bears struggled to find their offense early in the first half, while the Dolphins had their stroke going from behind the arc. Delgado biggest lead in the first half was 8 points with 4:06; 31 to 23.  The Bears started to pound the ball inside to their big men and this helped them close the gap. Freshman Chan Nai scored the Bears final 8 points to pull within three at the half. Delgado held a slim 35 to 32 lead at the break. 

In the second half, the Bears tied the game twice but struggled late. After the game was tied at 47, Delgado went on a 7 to 2 run to open up a 5 point lead. The Bears would battle back and close the Delgado's lead to two with 7:02; 60 to 58. The Dolphins extended their lead to eleven with 40 seconds to play. The Bears struggled to contain the Dolphins offense as they would fall tonight by the final score of 78 to 70.

Baton Rouge actually out shot Delgado 51.9 % compared to 43.1%, but Delgado shot 41.7% from behind the arc compared to 25% for the Bears. Baton Rouge scored 42 of their 70 points in the paint.  Baton Rouge committed 25 turnovers which led to 32 points for Delgado. Also to note the Bears Bench was outscored 28 to 16.

Tylor Harris led the Dolphins with 21 points. Erlyn Ramirez and Chan Nai led the Bears with 14 points each.

With the victory the Delgado Dolphins improve to 6-3, 3-2 in conference play, while Baton Rouge Bears fall to 4-5, 2-3 on the season.

Chan Nai co led the Bears with 14 points,6 Rebounds, and 1 Block

Cameron Massey score 12 points with 4 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Steal and 2 Blocks

Jayhlon Young added 9 points with 6 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 2 Steals and 2 Blocks

 

Next up for the Bears will be a conference match up this Saturday March 6, with the LSUE Bengals at 4pm in the HPRE Center in Eunice
