BRCC Bears outlast Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs

It was a wild game, Monday afternoon in the Wellness Center, between your BRCC Bears and Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs.  The first half saw both clubs trading baskets and playing hard. Early in the first half, the Bears took at 21 to 14 lead over the Bulldogs.  The game was tied at 23 all with 8:42 left in the first half.  Since the tie, the Bulldogs outscored the Bears 16 to 11 to take a 39 to 34 lead over the Bears at halftime. In the second half, the bulldogs built up their largest lead of the game at 9 points. With 10:14 left to play, the Bulldogs led the Bears 55 to 46.  The Bears fought back and tied the game at 55 with 6:55 to go in the game.  For the next four minutes, the Bears and Bulldogs went back and forth. Mississippi Gulf Coast took a 1 point lead with 44.2 seconds left in the game at 60 to 59. The Bears first bout of magic came with.18 second left in the game when Kaedrick Williams hit a three point basket to tie the game at 62. Mississippi Gulf Coast was in control of the first overtime session until Javier Roper stole a pass and scored a layup to tie the game at 70.  During the second overtime period, the  Bears pulled away from the Bulldogs, with 31 seconds left in the game.  Final Score was Baton Rouge 79 and Mississippi Gulf Coast 77.  BRCC improves their season record to 5-8 while Mississippi Gulf Coast falls to 8-2.  Their only two loses have come at the hands of Baton Rouge Community College.

 

Bears Highlights:

Terrance Dodson led all Bears in scoring with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals

Javier Roper added 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block

Kaedrick Williams had 9 points which that critical 3 pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation.  Kae also had 8 rebounds,1 steal and 2 assist

Michael Harden Jr. added 12 points and 7 assist

 

The Bears and Lady Bears will be back in action this Saturday January 13 as they take on Houston Community College at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on the BRCC Midcity campus.  Women's game starts at 2 pm, while the Men's game starts at 4 pm.  Admission will be $5.00
