Bears season ends with loss to the Delgado Dolphins

The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the Delgado Dolphins in a win and advance game of the Region XXIII Tournament at Denham Springs High School. It was a closely contested match, but the Dolphins secured a 3-1 victory over the Bears.
Neither team managed to score in the first two innings, as both starting pitchers kept the opposing lineup off balance. The Bears struck first in the third inning when Cooper Martin hit a single off the Dolphins' pitcher. Jake Brouillette walked, and Jackson Martin was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Conner Kleinpeter was then hit by a pitch, allowing Martin to score the Bears' first run.
The Dolphins finally got their offense going in the fifth inning, plating a run to tie the game at 1-1. In the sixth inning, Delgado took a 2-1 lead as J. Hoffmann and E. Booth hit back-to-back singles, which set up a sacrifice fly by F. Randol that allowed Hoffman to score. The Dolphins added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh, increasing their lead to 3-1.
The Bears had several opportunities but were unable to score again, ultimately falling to the Dolphins with a final score of 3-1.
Tanner Cranford started on the mound for the Bears, pitching four innings and allowing no runs on one hit, along with two walks and six strikeouts. Jayse Degruy pitched in relief and was credited with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits over 1.1 innings, while also walking one and striking out two. Briggs Ardoin and Jack Cowan both pitched 1.1 innings in relief for the Bears. G. Arencibia pitched 6.1 innings for the Dolphins, earning the victory by allowing one run on four hits, with one walk and ten strikeouts.

Jacob Covington went 1 for 3 with a double
With this loss, the Bears finish their 2025 season with a record of 5-45. The Dolphins, with this victory, will advance to play against the loser of the Nunez/LSUE game. Delgado now boasts a record of 27-16 and leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 97 wins to 36 losses.
