The Baton Rouge Bears faced the Delgado Dolphins today at Kirsch Rooney Stadium in New Orleans, concluding their four-game series. The Dolphins completed the series sweep with a decisive 6-1 victory.
The Dolphins struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead of 2-0. They added two more runs in the third inning, increasing their advantage to 4-0.
The Bears finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Conner Kleinpeter hit a double and later scored after Aidan Machado doubled as well.
Delgado put another run on the board in both the sixth and seventh innings, extending their lead to 6-1. In the eighth inning, the Bears loaded the bases when Dillion Bird and Jake Brouillette hit back-to-back singles, and Kleinpeter reached due to an error. However, the Dolphins managed to record two fly outs and appealed on a tag play at home plate. The umpires ruled that pinch runner Swanson left early, ending the inning and thwarting the Bears' threat.
The Bears fought until the end; Brayden Bertucci and Peyton Chaisson led off the ninth inning with consecutive singles, but both were left stranded. The Dolphins successfully held off another Bears comeback attempt to secure the 6-1 victory.
Cade Robin started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 6 innings and allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6. Grayson Davis pitched 2 innings in relief for the Bears. Alex Laiche started for the Dolphins and earned the victory, pitching 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, walking 3, and striking out 8.
Baton Rouge outhit Delgado 8 to 7, but the Bears committed four errors compared to just one for the Dolphins.
