Sunday, April 13, 2025: Baseball
Baton Rouge, LA
After their historic walk-off victory over the LSUE Bengals on Saturday night, the Bears aimed to carry that momentum into Sunday's single nine-inning game at Pete Goldsby Field. Unfortunately for the Bears, the Bengals found their offensive rhythm and defeated them 15 to 5 in a seven-inning run rule.
The Bengals jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Bears quickly responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 2-2. Both teams struggled offensively in the second inning, but the Bengals regained the lead by scoring two runs in the third. The Bears answered back with three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-4 lead. Layne Swanson led off with a walk, followed by another walk from Kenneth Berard . Jackson Martin then hit a double to right field, scoring Swanson, and Dillion Bird followed with a double of his own, plating both Beard and Martin.
In the fourth inning, Bears pitchers struggled to find the strike zone, walking three batters and hitting two more. The Bengals took advantage of the Bears' inconsistent pitching and some timely hits, scoring five runs to take an 8-5 lead. The Bengals added three more runs in the sixth inning, extending their lead to 11-5. The Bears had difficulty stringing together hits in the last four innings. The Bengals capped off the game with four additional runs in the top of the seventh inning, taking a commanding 15-5 lead over the Bears. The Bears went down in order in the bottom of the seventh inning, thus losing the series finale to the LSUE Bengals, 15-5.
Cade Robin started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing 9 runs on 9 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 2. Tanner Cranford (0.2 innings), Grayson Davis (2.0 innings), Grant Porche (0.2 innings), and Dylan Cedotal (0.1 innings) pitched in relief. For the Bengals, Marby started on the mound and was credited with the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 8.
