Bears drop Series Finale to the Southeastern CC Blackhawks

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks concluded their two-game series at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bears jumped out to an early lead, but the Blackhawks used an offensive explosion in the sixth inning to score five runs and secure a 7-4 victory.
Southeastern got on the board first with a run in the third inning. The Bears took the lead in the bottom of the frame when Hudson Heltz and Jake Brouillette reached base on back-to-back singles, followed by Jackson Martin hitting a home run to right field, scoring all three runs. The Blackhawks added a run in the fourth inning, closing the gap to 3-2. The Bears stretched their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth when Kenneth Berard drew a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a Brayden Bertucci sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Jacob Covington single to left field.
The Blackhawks' bats came alive in the sixth inning, as they plated five runs to take a 7-4 lead over the Bears. Both teams struggled offensively in the final three innings, failing to secure any timely hits. The Blackhawks emerged victorious, sweeping the two-game series with a 7-4 win.
Grant Porche started on the mound for the Bears, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits while walking 4 and striking out 2. Grayson Davis took the loss for the Bears, pitching 0.2 innings and giving up 2 runs on 2 hits. Klayton Wingfield (2.0 innings) and Dylan Cedotal (1 inning) provided relief.
Both teams collected nine hits, and Baton Rouge committed one error in the game.
Bears Highlights:
Jake Brouillette went 1 for 4 with 1 run.
Jackson Martin went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 1 run, and 3 RBIs.
Kenneth Berard recorded 1 run and 1 walk.
Brayden Bertucci went 2 for 3.
Jacob Covington went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.
Hudson Heltz went 1 for 3 with 1 run.
With the loss, the Bears fell to 4-22, while the Blackhawks improved to 11-5. Southeastern Community College leads the all-time series with 5 wins and 1 loss against Baton Rouge.
The Bears will travel to Beaumont, Texas, on Thursday, March 13, to take on the South Suburban Bulldogs at Vincent Beck Stadium at Lamar University. The game is set for 4 PM.
