Bears drop a pair of conference games to Delgado at Goldsby

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Delgado Dolphins started a three game conference series this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field. The Delgado Dolphins would sweep the Baton Rouge Bears 9-3 and 8-6, in the pair of conference games this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field.

Game One

The Delgado Dolphins would score first and use three big innings to defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 9-3, in game one of today's doubleheader.

The Dolphins would get on the board first when they would plate three runs,in the the top of the third inning.

The Bears would get on the board, in the bottom of the fourth inning, when they scratch across a run. Tanner Hornback would lead off the inning with a single to right field, advance to third on a Delgado error and score on a sacrifice fly by Collin Dupre. The Dolphins still held a 3-1 lead over the Bears after four innings.

The Bears would pull within one run when Ryan Richard would hit a solo homer to left field. The Dolphins still held a slim 3-2 lead over the Bears after five inning.

The Dolphins would tact on two more runs to their lead, in the top of the fifth inning, 5-2. Delgado would add four more runs to their lead in the top of the seventh inning. Three of the fourth runs came off the bat of G. Licciardi who would hit a three run homer to left field.

The Bears would threaten, in the seventh, but would come up short as the Delgado Dolphins would defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 9-3. In the bottom of the seventh inning the Bears would plate one run. Braden McLin would draw a walk and score on a Seth Fontenot single up the middle.

Reid Godchaux started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Godchaux pitched 6 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits while walking 5 and striking out 3. Hudson Manual pitched one inning in relief for the Bears. L. Barbie's started on the mound for the Dolphins and was credited with the victory.

Both teams had six hits on the day. The Bears committed two errors compared to one for the Bears.

 

Game One Bears Highlights

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 4 with 1 run.

Collin Dupre had 1 run.

Jackson Martin went 1 for 2.

Braden McLin had 1 run.

Isaac Leger went 1 for 3.

Ryan Richard went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 homerun.

Seth Fontenot went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.

 

Game Two

The Bears could not overcome a late Dolphin's rally thus falling 8-6, in the second game of today's doubleheader.

The Dolphins would get on the board first via a three run homer by C. Senior to centerfield, in the top of the second inning. The Bears would score three runs, in the bottom of the second inning. Isaac Leger would walk and score on a Ryan Richard double down the left field line. Lane Patin would trade places with Richard as he would hit a double of his own up the middle and Richard would score on the play. Braden Corkern would draw a walk. Tanner Hornback would hit into a fielder's choice but Patin would score on the play to tie the game at three a piece.

The Dolphins would retake the lead via a solo homer by C Dailey in the top of the third inning;4-3. The Bears would quickly tie the game with an opposite field solo homerun by Issac Leger. After three innings the game was tied at four runs a pieces.

Another inning and another lead change as the Dolphins would drive across one run in the top of the fourth inning to retake a 5-4 lead over the Bears. And like the previous innings the Bears would scratch across a run but this time they would plate two runs to take a 6-5 lead over the Dolphins. Braden Corkern would lead off the inning with a single and he would score on a Matthew Reinholtz bunt single to tie the game at five. Jackson Martin would hit into a fielder's choice but Reinholtz would score on the play to give the Bears a one run lead.

Bears pitcher Caden Durand would hold the Dolphins scoreless for two innings to preserve the Bears one run lead.  Durand would get in trouble, in the top of the seventh inning, when he would hit a batter, and give up back to back singles to the Dolphins in which they would tie the game at six runs a piece.  The Dolphins would tact on two more runs to take a 8-6 lead. The Bears would go down in order, in the bottom of the seventh inning, thus falling to Delgado by the final score of 8-6.

Owen Ponthieux started on the mound for the Bears. Ponthieux pitched 4 innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits while striking out 2. Caden Durand pitched in relief for the Bears and was credited with the loss. M. Hotard started on the mound for the Dolphins. He pitched one inning allowing 3 runs on 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 1.

Delgado outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 7. The Dolphins committed one error in the ball game.

 

Game Two Bears Highlights

Tanner Hornback had 1 RBI.

Matthew Reinholtz went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 BB.

Collin Dupre went 1 for 2 with 2 BB.

Jackson Martin had 1 RBI.

Isaac Leger went  1 for 3 with 2 runs, 1RBI and 1 BB.

Ryan Richard went 1 for 4 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 homer.

Lane Patin went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Braden Corkern went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 BB.


With the pair of losses the Bears fell to 12-36, 1-7 while the Dolphins improved to 33-10, 10-1 on the season.

The Bears will travel to Chalmette, Louisiana to conclude the regular season with a three game series versus Nunez on  April 26 and April 27, 2024.
